  3. 3. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 In Seattle, Washington. He spent hours reading reference books and the encyclopedia. At the age of 11 his parents were worried about his behavior. He did good at school but he seemed bored sometimes. So at the age of 13 his parents transferred him to a private school in Seattle called Lakeside School.
  4. 4. At Lakeside Bill Gates Did great in almost all thesubjects the school had. At Lakeside, a computercompany in Seattle asked to give computer time forstudents at the school. Bill Gates was veryinterested in the computer and would spend everyfree time he had in the computer room. At LakesideBill Gates met Paul Allen. Bill Gates and Paul Allenloved the computer and both of them worked in thecomputer room.
  5. 5. When Bill Gates was 13, him and Paul Allenwent to business together. They made Traf-O-Data, a computer program that watched trafficpatterns in Seattle. With that program BillGates and Paul Allen got $20,000. Bill Gatesand Paul Allen wanted to make their owncompany but Gate’s parents told him to finishhigh school and start collage.
  6. 6. Bill Gates graduated Lakeside School in 1973. He then attended Harvard University in fall. In Harvard, Bill would spend more time in the computer lab than in class. In 1974 Bill Gates joined Paul Allen at Honeywell. One day Paul Allen read a magazine and saw the Altair 8800 computer kit. Bill Gates and Paul Allen were thinking of the possibilities they could do with the Altair 8800.
  7. 7. The Altair 8800 was made by a company inNew Mexico called Micro Instrumentation andTelemetry Systems, also known as (MITS). BillGates and Paul Allen called the company andtold them they were working on a softwarethat would run on the Altair 8800. But BillGates didn’t have the Altair 8800, he justwanted to make a software that would run onthe Altair computer. The company agreed.

At first Microsoft wasfree and people could do anything with it. On1977 Ed Roberts the CEO of MITS sold thecompany to another computer company. BillGates and Paul Allen were by themselves. BillGates sued the new manager to keep theirsoftware for the Altair.
  10. 10. In 1980 IBM(a hardware company) was lookingfor software that would run on their computerand went to Microsoft. One day an IBM workerthought he was an office assistant and askedfor coffee. Bill Gates did look young but Gatesgot IBM’s attention pretty quickly andconvinced IBM that Microsoft would help theirneeds.

Also around mid 1981Bill Gates was chosen as the president ofMicrosoft and Paul Allen as the vice president.On 1983 Microsoft went global from places inJapan and Great Britain. Also 30% of theworlds computers ran on Microsoft. That sameyear Paul Allen was got the Hodgkins diseaseand left the Microsoft company.
  12. 12. On November 1985, Microsoft launched Windows. After a while Windows looked a lot like Apple’s Macintosh. Before Apple gave Microsoft access to their technology while Microsoft products that would work on the Apple computer. Bill Gates told Apple to license their work but they refused.

In 1987, Bill Gates became a billionaire hasbeen on the top of Forbes 400 list of the worldsrichest people and held the title for 18 years.On 1994 Bill Gates married Melinda French atHawaii. A few months later something terriblehappened. Bill Gates mother got breast cancerand died in June 1994.
  14. 14.  In 2000 Bill and Melinda Gates started the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. At this time Bill Gates left Steve Ballmer as the CEO of Microsoft. He still was the president of Microsoft. On June 27, 2008 Bill Gates retired from Microsoft to work at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
