Fear And Anger - Presentation Transcript

  1. Fear and Anger • There are three types of fear mentioned in bible; 1. Fear of God- Reverential trust. There can be a superstitious fear of God which is produced by the fruit of ignorance. Fearing punishment more than fearing to displease Him. 2. Fear of Man- Fear reckoned toward behavior. We fear the opinions of man with regard to what we are doing and what we are becoming. 3. Fear of Evil- Demonic fear. More afraid of what the devil will do than what we should do for the Lord. The fear of man and of evils are avoided by the fear of God.
  2. Fear and Anger Anger is often found in the scripture 2. Anger toward each other. (Eph 4:31)- This kind of anger is prohibited for the believer. We cannot be right with God and wrong with our brother. 3. Anger in holiness. (Eph 4:26)-Paul warns about the sin that can be connected to the emotion of anger. But does not prohibit the anger itself. Anger can be a motivator to holiness. 4. Anger towards God. (Mary and Martha)-(Moses)-(Job). 5. Anger of God. This is Gods anger against sin. (Romans 1:18)
  3. By-products of fear Fear of man- Shyness, introverted, insecure, worry, embarrassment, over-sensitive, inferiority, inadequacy, fear of confrontation Improper fear of God- hopelessness, loneliness, perfectionism, fear of failure, anxiety or dread, Fear of evil- Fantasy, Self-pity, the development of Phobias, Hysteria, doubt perplexity, indecision, superstition, self-violence, suicide, self-condemnation Proper fear of God- Obedience, sacrifice, godly character, worship, thanksgiving. 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
  4. By-products of Anger Unrighteous Anger- Resentment bitterness, Sarcasm, revenge, Rage, hatred, violence, criticism, unforgiving, compulsive, stubborn, rebellious, proud, selfish, Self-righteous, intolerant, aggressiveness, overly competitive, Egotistical. Righteous Anger- Holiness, proper stand against sin, becoming vessels of grace, determined to present the gospel in word, deed, and lifestyle. Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
  5. Our walk 1. Walk in the Spirit. (Gal 5:16, 25) 2. Walk in newness of life (Rom 6:4) 3. Walk circumspectly (Eph 5:15) 4. Walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing (Col 1:10) 5. Walk in love (Eph 5:2) 6. Walk in wisdom and prudence (Col 4:5) 7. Walk in truth (3 John 4) 8. Walk in Christ (Col 2:6)
  6. Our walk 1. Walk with God (Gen 5:24) 2. Walk before God. (Gen 17:1) 3. Walk after God (Deut 13:4) 4. Walk in the light (1 John 1:7) 5. Walk in good works (Eph 2:10) 6. Walk honestly (Rom 13:13) 7. Walk by faith (2 Cor 5:7) 8. Walk worthy of our calling (Eph 4:1)
  7. Walk in the Spirit (1 Thess 5:23, Heb 4:12) There is a difference between soul and spirit. Soul is that part of man that concerns life, like action and emotion. Spirit is that part of man that concerns divine communion and worship To walk in the soulish part of man would be to lay yourself open to the human emotion for your guidance. This can lead at times to relationship with Christ, but also can lead at times to despair. To walk in the spirit part of man would be to only open yourself up to the divine nature of the Father. Therefore abandonment of the soul can result in walking in the Spirit.
  8. Walking in the Spirit (Activities) Walking in the Spirit is to have all your activities centered in the person of the Holy Spirit. There are some alarming substitutes; 2. Rationalism 3. Ritualism 4. Empty Activism
  9. Walking in the Spirit (Power walk) Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you. Power- (dunamis)- This is where we get our word dynamite. It means miraculous power or ability. It refers to a super abundance of power or strength. It is enabling power to do the supernatural. It enables one to do what he is incapable of doing without such power. There are two principles to release such a power 4. Baptism of the Spirit 5. Infilling of the Spirit
  10. Walking in newness of life (Rom 6:4) •Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. •Buried with him by baptism- dead to the former ways, they are buried. •Raised up in newness of life- Just as the resurrection of Christ brought to him new life, so we to have been raised to a new manner of life.
  11. Newness of life •How do we obtain newness of life? •In obtaining newness of life we must realize first that the old life we were living or are living brings nothing but death and destruction. •Considering the Mt. Of Temptation 1.Following the leadership of the Holy Spirit 2.A willingness to battle the enemy on any ground 3.Being equipped with the word of God. Both the logos & Rehma 4.Isolation from distractions that refocuses our task
  12. Wilderness battles • There is significance to the number 40. It means probation, separation, judgment. • During these 40 days our Lord did battle with the devil through three different temptations concerning these 4 area’s. • Questioning his position as the Son of God • Testing His resolve to carry out His work. • Reaching the goal in the wrong way. • Temptation to surrender his worship
  13. The tools of Doubt •The authority of Christ was being called into question by attempting to raise doubt concerning His identity. •Satan would love nothing more than to keep you in doubt to who you are in Christ thus bringing confusion to your benefits as a child of God. •We must move into the reality of who we are. •We are going to be given opportunity to act on who we are. •Victory will come as we release our faith.
  14. The test of resolve •In the wilderness is Satan’s opportunity to test our resolve in many ways. •Are we resolved to stay the course that has been charted? •Are we resolved to answer Satan with the word of God? •Are we resolved to believe the report of the Lord instead of the report of the enemy?
  15. Reaching the goal Can we obtain the blessings of God on our terms? •The arm of the flesh or the power of the Spirit •Compromise or Conquest •To bow down or to rise above
  16. The Surrender of your Worship Satan reveals his ultimate plan for everyone, which is for you to give your worship to him. •Your worship is the most intimate part of you. •Satan will trade power for worship. •Whatever controls you is the object of your worship.
