  • 1. My Top TenGoogle Tips by Teresa Koons
  • 2. # 10 Google Calendar In the number 10 position I have chosen Google Calendar. School related dates are always on my desk calendar but often I need that information elsewhere. More than once I have been out and a parent ask a question about an upcoming event. With Google Calendar the information can be accessible by checking my Google account.
  • 3. #9 School Year Calendar Staying organized with access to the school calendar is very helpful to me. I often work from home preparing lesson plans and making plans for future events. The school year calendar allows me to find the information I need in a flash.
  • 4. #8 Adding Video WithGoogle PresentationsAdding video to a slide presentation is a plusfor teachers that want to incorporate videoclips that better illustrate the lesson.
  • 5. #7 Google Docs TemplatesThe Google Docs Templates make it easy toprepare presentations, documents, andspreadsheets. The application is so easythat your students can easily master. Oftenstudents have access to a computer with aninternet connection but do not haveexpensive software like Powerpoint. GoogleDocs Templates make assigningpresentations that much easier.
  • 6. #6 Google GroupsUsing Google Groups I can set up a placewhere I can safely and securelycommunicate with my students. With theGoogle Groups I can share information withmy students and improve communicationwith their parents. The group can be privateor can be published.
  • 7. #5 Google SMSApplication for your PhoneI use this application all the time to findnumbers and addresses. It is easy to use, text message to Google (466453) the nameof a person or establishment and you willreceive the information back in a text. Thiscomes in handy when you need to contact aparent but do not have their numberavailable.
  • 8. #4 Consolidate EmailAccountsMy grandson thinks I am in the dark agesbecause I still have an AOL email account. Now that I have been introduced to all thepotential of Google and its applications Itend to agree. This application provides acentralized location where you can send andreceive email from other accounts. What atimesaver and I am being a teacher I amwild about anything that saves me time.
  • 9. #3 Google ScholarThis Google search is new to me but hasquickly become one of my favorite. If I haveheard research driven once, I have heard itthousands of times over the past 9 yearsthat I have taught. I have found this a quickand easy way to find research about what isnew in education.
  • 10. iGoogleHaving a place to keep all of the usefulcontent that you collect and consolidate it allin one place. What an idea, iGoogle givesyou that with your own customizedhomepage. With gadgets like calendars, maps, weather, and to do lists thisapplication can keep both you and yourstudents organized.
  • 11. Google ImagesI know this seems simple but as you havealways heard, a picture says 1000 words. Icant tell you how often I use this applicationto find images for presentations. I want mystudents to see, hear, and touch the what Iam teaching. Google Images provide mewith an endless selection of images.
