  • 3. DEFINITION OF THE WORLD BANK • the Bank functions as an international organization that attempts to fight poverty by offering developmental assistance to middle and poor-income countries. By giving loans, and offering advice and training in both the private and public sectors, the World Bank aims to eliminate extreme poverty by helping people help themselves.
  • 4. HISTORY OF THE WORLD BANK • The World Bank was created at the end of World War II as a result of many European and Asian countries needing financing to fund reconstruction efforts. Created out of the Bretton Woods agreement of 1944, the Bank was successful in providing financing for these devastated countries.

  • 8. 5 PRIORITIES OF THE WORLD BANK • World bank provides the largest external funds for education. • It is a big support in reducing poverty. • It provides fund for biodiversity projects. • it helps to bring clean water, electricity, and transport to poor people. • It helps in controlling emerging conflicts.

CRITICISM • It was started to reduce poverty but it support United States’ business interests. • The President of the Bank is always a citizen of the United States. • Lack transparency to external publics. • It is used as an instrument for the promotion of U.S. or Western interests. • The decision-making structure is undemocratic. • It has consistently pushed a “neo-liberal” agenda
