When God Doesn’T Make Sense When God Doesn’T Make Sense Presentation Transcript

• When God Doesn’t Make Sense
• Have you ever asked God
• “ Where are you?”
• “ Why are you not helping?”
• “ Why are the innocent hurting?”
• “ Why are you not doing anything about this world?”
• A true life story
• Husband and Wife… happy family
• Have 2 kids…
• Mother leaves husband an family for another man…
• Man remarries has a child by second wife…
• 2 original children are neglected for new daughter.
• Now Neither mom or dad want children…
• Children are shipped back and forth
• Mom is very immature.. Pawned daughter’s classring, stereo, and Guitar for money to buy cigarettes… Pawned son’s DVD player for money.
• Mom is evicted every 3 months because she can’t keep a job… and won’t pay rent…
• Mom is always promising her kids she will have a place to live… will pay them back… etc… Mom is 40 yrs old!
• Time to grow up….
• We have prayed and prayed for God to step in and rescue these kids… now 17 and 13.
• We got very aggravated and angry at God Monday….
• We asked, “Why don’t you do something!!!!!!!!!!!!?”
• David asked these questions also…
• Psalms 35:17 KJV Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.
• Psalms 74:10 KJV O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
• Psalms 94:3-7 KJV
• (3) LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?
• (4) [How long] shall they utter [and] speak hard things? [and] all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
• (5) They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage.
• (6) They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.
• (7) Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard [it] .
• One of Our Texts today…
• Psalms 13:1-6 KJV
• (1) <To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.> How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
• (2) How long shall I take counsel in my soul, [having] sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
• (3) Consider [and] hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the [sleep of] death;
• (4) Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; [and] those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.
• (5) But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.
• (6) I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.
• We look at all the evil in the world, and wonder why God allows it…
• We know the right “Sunday School” answers…
• “ God is patient, not willing any should perish”
• “ All things work together for them that love God”
• “ God will not put more on you than you can bear”
• “ Just be patient, God will get vengeance”
• But when you see hurting people everywhere… we still ask “Why?” or “Where are you God?”…
• First, Let’s look at verses 5 and 6.
• (5) But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.
• (6) I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.
• Do you Trust in God?
• Do you rejoice in Salvation?
• Do you count your blessings?
• You may say, yeah, I can count my blessings, but what about all the other people in the world, that I love, that is hurting… what is God going to do for them?
• He sent his Son to die for them…
• He is concerned for their eternal welfare.
• But He is not going to force someone to accept Jesus…
• They have to want to accept Jesus.
• But Why do Christians, especially children that are Christians, have to hurt?
• Turn to:
• Psalms 82:1-8 KJV
• (1) <A Psalm of Asaph.> God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
• (2) How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
• (3) Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
• (4) Deliver the poor and needy: rid [them] out of the hand of the wicked.
• (5) They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
• (6) I have said, Ye [are] gods; and all of you [are] children of the most High.
• (7) But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
• (8) Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.
• Here is a picture of God
• standing among those who have power to change things….
• The word “gods” here means judges…
• People who can change things…
• And God asks them why they are not defending the poor and fatherless,
• Why they are not helping the sick and needy, why they are not defending the poor and needy from the wicked.
• In the end, God knows that the mighty of this world will ultimately fail…
• That is why He sent his son…
• Now turn to:
• Luke 4:18-21 KJV
• (18) The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
• (19) To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
• (20) And he closed the book, and he gave [it] again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
• (21) And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
• And then…
• Mark 10:13-16 KJV
• (13) And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and [his] disciples rebuked those that brought [them] .
• (14) But when Jesus saw [it] , he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
• (15) Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
• (16) And he took them up in his arms, put [his] hands upon them, and blessed them.
• Now…
• Jesus came to help the poor, heal the brokenhearted, deliver those that are held captive, heal the sick, set people free, and to preach that now is the time to accept the Lord.
• In the second passage, He says to receive little children, and not hinder them from coming to Him. Then He reaches out for them to bless them…
• Now if Jesus came to do that,
• Why then, 2000 yrs later, do we have Hurting people… Why do people backstab us?
• Why are some people so crue?l
• Where is Jesus?
• Consider these verses…
• 1 Corinthians 12:27 KJV
• (27) Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
• (John 14:12 KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
• When Christ ascended
• He sent The Holy Spirit to indwell believers…
• to do the work of Christ in this world….
• To be His body….
• IOWS The Church.
• Now with all of this information, what should be God’s response when we ask him, “Why are you not helping the hurting?”
• His response is,
• “What are you doing?,
• you are the Body of Christ to this world”
• Or… Psalms 82:2-6 KJV
• (2) How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
• (3) Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
• (4) Deliver the poor and needy: rid [them] out of the hand of the wicked.
• (5) They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
• (6) I have said, Ye [are] gods; and all of you [are] children of the most High.
• Don’t blame God for the hurt of this world, if you pass by and do nothing!
• Kansas Store Video Captures Five Shoppers Stepping Over Dying Stabbing Victim
• Tuesday, July 03, 2007
• Associated Press
• WICHITA, Kan. — As stabbing victim LaShanda Calloway lay dying on the floor of a convenience store, five shoppers, including one who stopped to take a picture of her with a cell phone, stepped over the woman, police said.
• The June 23 situation, captured on the store's surveillance video, got scant news coverage until a columnist for The Wichita Eagle disclosed the existence of the video and its contents Tuesday.
• Police have refused to release the video, saying it is part of their investigation.
• "It was tragic to watch," police spokesman Gordon Bassham said Tuesday. "The fact that people were more interested in taking a picture with a cell phone and shopping for snacks rather than helping this innocent young woman is, frankly, revolting."
• The woman was stabbed during an altercation that was not part of a robbery, Bassham said. It took about two minutes for someone to call 911, he said.
• Calloway, 27, died later at a hospital.
• Two suspects have been arrested. A 19-year-old woman was charged with first-degree murder. Another suspect who turned himself in had not been charged as of Tuesday, the Sedgwick County prosecutor's office said.
• The district attorney's office will have to decide whether any of the shoppers could be charged, Bassham said.
• It was uncertain what law, if any, would be applicable. A state statute for failure to render aid refers only to victims of a car accident.
• "This is just appalling," Williams told the newspaper. "I could continue shopping and not render aid and then take time out to take a picture? That's crazy. What happened to our respect for life?"
• So the real Question is…
• What are YOU going to do to help the hurting?
• Yes, it gets messy..
• Yes, you will make enemies..
• Yes, You may have to make sacrifices..
• But to be like Christ…
• We must be willing to sacrifice all…
• He did!
