  2. 2.  <br />This exercise is a creative game that clarifies the value of quality collaboration.<br />
  3. 3. STEP 1.Form teams of two to four people. <br />STEP 1.1. Write the names of team members at the head of a Collaboration Chart. <br /> <br />

  5. 5. STEP 2. Reflect individually on your personal talents and powers and the situations that enable them. Identify three sources of power with an important value for you. <br /> STEP 2.1. Each member of the team should now record their sources of power in the cells below their name on the Collaboration Chart. Write your most valued source of power in the top cell, the second most valued in the second cell, and the third most valued in the third cell.<br /> <br />

  7. 7. STEP 3.Take a look at the contents of the top row of the Collaboration Chart. This row now contains the primary sources of empowerment for your team.<br /> <br />

  9. 9. STEP 3.1.Consider how you might bring your primary source of power into line with those of one or more others on your team. The objective here is not necessarily to change your source of power, but to refine it so as to establish a resonance or harmony with others.<br /><ul><li>For example, June might change ‘Surfing’ to ‘Competition surfing’ to bring it into line with Henry’s marathon efforts (the resonance being ‘competition sports’).</li></ul> <br />

STEP 3.2.Participants have the option of bumping up a secondary or tertiary source of power to the primary row if they think that this may help with group convergence. <br /><ul><li>For example, Bevan might bump up ‘Surfing’ from the secondary to the primary row to converge with June and Henry. </li></ul> <br />

You are ready to explore a collaborative activity that draws on the primary sources of power of the members your group and cultivates an emergent power in common. <br />The task is to collectively design an item of value that leverages each of the primary sources of power on the Collaboration Chart. This item can be anything that you choose: an object, product, or service. The only requirements are that it has some sort of function and value, and can be seen to draw on the primary sources of power of each member of your group. <br /> Go crazy! Have fun. Collaborate for the sake of it. <br />
  14. 14. STEP 5. Once you’ve come up with your item of value, give it a name and provide a brief description of its value and function. <br /> STEP 5.1. What if you decided to take things further and make this item a reality? How might this help you concretize new powers to think, feel, do, and be? How might it enable you to cultivate a mutual power that you wouldn’t possess independently of the project?<br />
  15. 15. Lesson: Collaboration is intrinsically rewarding when it empowers the members of the group. To set up quality acts of collaboration in the workplace and elsewhere, ensure that participants are able to leverage their personal powers in collaborative acts, and harmonize their powers to produce emergent powers-in-common.<br /> <br />
