History Located in the heart of the Mexican War Streets, the museum is a landmark in the middle of Pittsburgh’s redeveloping North Side neighborhood. <ul><li>Incorporated in 1977, the Mattress Factory was one of the first museums dedicated to showing the work of installation artists. </li></ul><ul><li>Over the past 30 years, the museum has shown the work of over 300 artists. </li></ul>
  3. Mission <ul><li>To Show The Work Of Installation Artists </li></ul><ul><li>To Archive History - video, audio, interviews, material lists all connected to some of the 20th century’s most prolific artists. </li></ul><ul><li>To Educate - “ encouraging visitors to experience, investigate, understand and participate in the creative practice living artists undertake to make new site-specific, room-sized works…” 1 </li></ul><ul><li>To Offer A Residency Program - “… artistic programming is focused on the commission, presentation and collection of new site-specific installations that are developed in residency. Each installation is conceived for and executed in the space in which the public sees it.
