  • 1. Using Encore Finding library stuff in the 21 st Century
  • 2. Encore
    • No need to distinguish between author, title, or subject
    • Uses ‘tags’ (which are similar to keywords)
    • Can add your own “tags”
    • Sorts results
    • Suggests alternate searches
  • 3. Example: Author’s last name and one word from the title
  • 4.  
  • 5. Example: Topic Narrow by where the words are found, format, collection, location, language or date Narrow by tags
  • 6. Check to see if it is at Hackley Public Library: Hackley
  • 7. Example: Limited to HPL
  • 8. Logging in or signing in
    • You can log in or sign in to your account
    • Click on “Login” in the upper right hand corner: enter your library card and “pin” (usually the last four digits of your phone)
    • Puts your “home library” results at the top of the list
    • You can put your name on the waiting list
    • You can add tags

  • 12. Placing a hold
    • If looking for only one book, click on “Request it”
    • Your home library will be at the top of the list of libraries (if you are logged in)
    • You can change the pick up location to another library if you wish

  • 14. Placing a Hold: selecting pick up location Click on the down arrow to get a list of libraries to choose from…your home library will be automatically filled in.
  • 15. Using the Cart
    • Use if you’d like to send a list of books to an email account
    • Click on “Add to Cart” for each of your selections
    • Click on the cart in the upper right hand corner
    • Fill in the email address and a subject for the email
  • 16. My Cart has 3 items
  • 17. Enter the email address and subject Click here when done
  • 18. What are Tags?
    • Tags are added by other users
    • They help describe the item
    • You can use them to narrow your search
    • You can add tags, too!
      • Sign into your account
      • Click on the title of the item, or click on “more info”
      • Click on “Add a Tag”
  • 19. Click on Title or More Info
  • 20. Add your tag in the Community tag box
