Similar Conventions in RnB Music Video’s This shot is very similar to a shot in trey songz video ‘successful. (As seen on the right) Its shows masculinity and power, the body language in this still image represents the song well as it provokes sex appeal in the video. This could be seen as challenging the codes and conventions of normal RnB music videos as it is the norm to see a female in a revealing and ‘sexy’ light. Another conventional element in RnB videos is to have bright strobe lights or spotlights behind the artist, we chose to put two spotlights behind the artist in this shot to display the artists importance and wealthy ness. The lights make the artist seem extravagant and draws the audience ‘s attention to the main point of focus which is the peformer. The multiple layering of the same artist creates an effect in which allows us to show the different personalities of the performer this is done by showing different facial expressions in the three clips and also by the performer having on different outfits. This is prominent in a lot of Music videos in the RnB genre.
Similar Conventions in RnB Music Video’s… Continued Here the usage of mirrors and reflective devices illustrates the artist reflecting upon themselves this device is used largely throughout RnB Videos. The mirror is a prop in which adds visual complexity. This long shot is to show the mise en scen, it also lets the audience know the man in the image may be of a much higher class as the house he stands in looks luxurious and striking. This horizontal pan in the video showing the artists home and possessions this is done because the majority of singers ‘show off’ their wealth, via displaying extraordinary cars, mansions ect This introduction provokes the simplicity we wanted to achieve in the video literally showing the artist walking onto the set, the tilt view gives the artist superiority.
Theme of weather? The theme of weather is a theme in which is threaded throughout out the video this is done as it directly connotates the lyrics in the song. The artist is searching for a ‘special girl’ and whilst he is still alone he feels cold, isolated and lonely. The weather and facial expression , illustrates this and the close ups allows this emotion to be conveyed to the audience.
The Website Music video URL Advertising Ell Payne’s newest album Advertising and marketing social networking tabs News/BLOGS it is conventional to have the name of the artist as the banner
Updated website Final web page Original web page I originally over complicated my website as I didn’t want too much dead space. However, as I progressed I decided that simplicity would diminish the amateur nature of my website. And also making the masthead have a silhouette of the artist would make the main title more interesting .
How effective is the combination of your main product (music video) and ancillary texts (the website & digipak)?
How effective is the combination? Here are all three media texts, the image I was trying to create was an abstract yet futuristic type, I did this because it simply hasn’t been done before. Some RnB artists have ‘dabbled’ in cartoonist and abstract styled album covers like Drake. However the image of the artist is still clear as to identifying whom the artist is. Although my artist is unsigned I believe this style will be recognisable and distinctive enough to market to a ‘blind’ audience. The theme of weather is one which is carried throughout my media texts. The music video has this theme throughout the snow scenes. Where as my CD diji pack has a coldness feel to it. The black and white is coherent throughout all three products with a splash of violet to bring out some character. The background also has a splattered effect which could be perceived as rain or snow. I did this to make it a more visually interesting. The text is all coherent I used I mixture of impact and monotype corsivia.. The font ‘impact’ conveys masculinity which complements the more vulnerable ‘Monotype’ as the album is about love it was necessary to show a softer side.
The three products tie in well together as a collection, however the music video slightly differs from the diji pack and website, despite it being black and white and carrying the weather theme, the caricature largely differentiates from the artist in the suit in the video. However music videos don’t typically cohere with album covers as each song has its individual style.
The colour scheme is coherent throughout however my scheme could in some ways challenge usual male artists, colours used are typically very masculine colours like red, however as the song and about title love and intimacy I believed violet was perfect.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Feed Back The majority of feed back we got about the music video was positive, the audience enjoyed the ‘professional’ feel to the video and also enjoyed that there were different locations throughout, e.g. Ferry, France, Andaz Hotel on Liverpool street and a lighted studio. As the video was posted on Facebook allot of feedbak was informal (mostly ‘likes’), however this publishing of the video was perfect to reach our target audience as social networking sites and Youtube are accessed by the younger generation to then freely and easily comment on. When showing the video to our audience there reaction to the chromakey scene was shocked and wanted to see it a second time they said it was very clever and original. These quotes are from one person whom gave constructive feedback. Full comments on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkLUZrY0zns “ “ This video looks really professional “ “ The way its be edited is really interesting “ “ Similar to Usher and Drake
Feedback My audience also was very positive about the unique flare of my diji pack they liked the fact it was ‘different’ and unlike the usual ‘close up’ image of an RnB male artists. One person said it reminded them of Drake. However somebody else said they didn’t like the fact the artists face is completely blanked out, as he likes to instantly recognise what artists a CD he is buying. Overall I learnt that my music video was successful in conveying a realistic RnB artist, and that as a package the CD diji pack cohered with my website however the music video did slightly differ. My representation was accurate of an RnB artist and video.
