  3. 3. ALMOST 1.8 BILLION PEOPLE LIVE IN INDIA. Of these……
  4. 4. <ul><li>Three-fourths lack basic necessities. </li></ul><ul><li>Almost one third have no access to clean water. </li></ul><ul><li>A half do not have adequate housing. </li></ul><ul><li>Three fourths do not have sufficient clothing. </li></ul>Percent of population living under the poverty line, over the final quarter of the 21th century.

Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of him/(her) self and his/(her) family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services... Everyone has the right to education. ~ Universal Declaration of Human Rights WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP THIS RULE HAPPEN?
  6. 6. This winter, when you are busy shopping clothes, there are millions out there on the streets DYING OF THE BITTER COLD DUE TO insufficient clothing.
  7. 7. HERE IS WHERE CHARITY COMES IN. <ul><li>Charity is a virtue of the heart which bears no malice or ill-will to any human being, and even compassionates those who hold in bondage their fellow-men, not knowing what they do.  </li></ul>
  8. 8. WHAT IS EK JODI KAPDA CAMPAIGN? Addressing THE BASIC BUT THE IGNORED NEED OF CLOTHING, Whirlpool has joined hands with  GOONJ (an acclaimed voluntary organization working on the issue of clothing), to initiate EK JODI KAPDA campaign. Goonj in association with Whirlpool collects discarded clothes, old books, newspapers, magazines, copy books, toys and even plastic bottles, blankets and even medicines ; and issues them to the poor.
  9. 9. ? ? ? ? A QUESTION ARISES HERE: DO THESE CHARITY CAMPAIGNS TOO HAVE THEIR OWN POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE IMPACTS?
  10. 10. YES. THEY DO! LIKE EVERY COIN HAS TWO SIDES, CAMPAIGNS LIKE EK JODI KAPDA CAMPAIGN HAVE THEIR PROS AND CONS.
  11. 11. <ul><li>SERVICE TO THE NEEDY. </li></ul><ul><li>INCULCATES THE FEELING OF COMPASSION </li></ul><ul><li>PROMOTES REUSING DISCARDED MATERIALS; REDUCES ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION. </li></ul><ul><li>HELPS VERY POOR PEOPLE LIFT THEMSELVES FROM POVERTY. </li></ul><ul><li>CAN BE EXPANDED ON A LARGER SCALE. </li></ul><ul><li>MERE PUBLICITY STUNTS TO PROMOTE THE SALE OF PRODUCTS. </li></ul><ul><li>INEFFECTIVE IN REACHING MILLIONS IN REMOTE AREAS. </li></ul><ul><li>MIGHT NEVER REACH THE RIGHT HANDS. </li></ul><ul><li>DIFFICULT TO MOTIVATE PEOPLE FOR LARGE SCALE PROGRAMS </li></ul>
  12. 12. THE BRIGHTER SIDE <ul><li>The best part of these campaigns is that it helps the poorest of the poor in their distress. The very aim of these campaigns is to serve the needy and the less fortunate. </li></ul><ul><li>It instills in the general public and the volunteers the feeling of compassion and fraternity. It is usually through these campaigns people acknowledge the intensity of the problems of the needy. </li></ul>
  13. 13. <ul><li>The materials we discard into landfills as waste may be dream come true for the poor. Also, the unused materials often choke the land pores and impair plant growth. </li></ul><ul><li>The campaigns helps the downtrodden raise themselves from the demeaning difficulty of poverty. It helps them at least to camouflage their terrible existence. </li></ul><ul><li>Sometimes, the best of these campaigns are a model which can be expanded on a larger scale. </li></ul>THE BRIGHTER SIDE

These campaigns are mere publicity stunts created by the sponsors to merchandise their products. </li></ul><ul><li>These campaigns are often too small to reach most of the hundreds of millions living in rural and remote parts of the nation . </li></ul>THE DARKER SIDE
  15. 15. THE DARKER SIDE <ul><li>Sometimes, the items end in the black market, never reaching to those it’s intended for. Thus, the very aim of these campaigns is damaged. </li></ul><ul><li>It is harder to motivate people for large scale programs than it is to attract support for help to specific individuals or groups, even if this only helps a fraction of the people who need it most. </li></ul>
  16. 17. A HELPING HAND MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE. LIGHT UP A LIFE BY YOUR VALUABLE CHARITY. MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN.
  17. 19. <ul><li>THE BOTTOM LINE…. </li></ul><ul><li>Even though there may be many disadvantages regarding charity </li></ul><ul><li>campaigns, the result ultimately weighs them in favour. Whoever reaps the </li></ul><ul><li>harvest, at least a fraction of people benefit from these campaigns. </li></ul><ul><li>Try to help the poor in kind and cash. </li></ul><ul><li>Volunteering your bit to NGOs </li></ul><ul><li>itself is a noble deed. </li></ul><ul><li>But ensure that your efforts reach the right hands. </li></ul><ul><li>let’s not wait for the campaigners </li></ul><ul><li>to knock at your door! </li></ul><ul><li>WAKE UP! IT’s YOUR TURN TO </li></ul><ul><ul><li>CONTRIBUTE YOUR MITE TO A MIGHTY CAUSE. </li></ul></ul>
