        • O 3  is a triatomic molecule, consisting of
    • three oxygen atoms.
    • O 3  ozone is colourless
    • O 3 has a characteristic smell
    • O 3 can be created trough electrical
    • discharge or ultraviolet light
    • O 3 can be measured in ppm or in µg/m3
  • 5. This guide describes a typical installation in a commercial kitchen exhaust duct. The product can also be used in other applications as long as the specific requirements according to the guide are fulfilled. Facts about Ozone Ozone is a colorless gas with a pungent smell that can be detected by any person at a concentration of 0,02ppm (0,4mg/m 3 ). The smell of ozone is similar to chlorine like in a swimming baths. Local protection legislations must be followed when using ozone. In Sweden the Swedish Work Environment Authority issues the following hygienic limits for ozone: 0,1ppm (during a working day, 8 hours) 0,3ppm (during 15 minutes) At acute exposure ozone can cause following injuries: On skin: Irritation and burning feeling. In eyes: Hard irritation, burn injuries and reduced vision. In lungs: Irritated effect on respiratory organs and breathing problems. Basically one should always take precautions if ozone in some way can be detected in indoor environment. Facts about Ozone (Installation guides)

  • 32. IVL air and smell analysis at McD About IVL IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute is an independent research body that has been involved since 1966 in the development of solutions to environmental problems on behalf of the business sector and the community.
    • IVL air analysis at McD
    • Analysis and conclusion of IVL Report U 2270 (Measurements in a kitchen exhaust duct)
    • The amount of carbon dioxide CO 2 was not affected by ozone.
    • The amount of oxygen O 2 was not affected by ozone.
    • The relative humidity H 2 O was increased due to the ozone. Approximately 30-40 % higher.
    • Concentrations of small particles increased marginally.
    • H x C x +O 3  H 2 O+O 2 +C
    • IVL smell analysis at McD
    • A test was done at McD´s ”Göteborg” on Aug 28, 2008.
    • Smell reduction of 95%

  • 42. Case McD ”Häggvik” McDonald´s Häggvik opened first week June 2008. 1 x AirMaid 10000-V for the grill 1 x AirMaid 5000-V for two fryers. The installation has been in accordance with set-up from H&K .
  • 43. Inspection August 25 Case McD ”Häggvik” The exhaust air stream extracts the ozone from the ejectors into the exhaust duct. In the beginning of the transition channel the ozone is not properly mixed and therefore the inner walls are covered with grease. Ejectors were installed in the beginning of August Further on in the exhaust duct the cleaning effect of the ozone can be seen. The picture shows the exhaust duct just after the transition channel. Here the ozone is better mixed with the total air flow and the grease is being oxidized by the ozone.
  • 44. Case McD ”Häggvik” The duct is later connected to the fryers and the picture shows the exhaust duct on the fryer side. The duct is completely dry and free from grease. The same inspection hatch but to the left instead. Here the exhaust duct is already free from grease (just around one meter away from the transition channel).
  • 45. Case McD ”Häggvik” It is a big different between the amount of grease from the fryers and grill. Transition channel from one of the fryer.
