  5. 5. Introduction Emma Donaghue Room created quite a sensation among the readers. Though based on a real life story its does not lack originality in the way she had designed the narrative. The plot revolves around two persons and of course the third who is responsible for unlawful detaining of a person initially. Later the captive gave birth to a child. The plot is dominated by the ordeal of the duo. With her daring and touching presentation as well as its hold on the readers it has caught the attention of critics all around. This thesis deals with the dual response to the same ordeal. Two members, one an adult and another one, a child-how they respond to the ordeal is the basis of this work. The first chapter introduces the author and places in an unique literary environment apart from mentioning the state of the art. The first chapter is titled “Emma Donaghue”. The second chapter deals with a critical introduction to the Room titled “ Room an Introduction”. The third chapter analyses the child’s attitude towards captivity and is titled, “Childhood in Room”. The fourth chapter deals with the adult’s response to captivity and is titled,”Adulthood in Room”. The fifth chapters brings out the conflict between the two responses and is titled, “Childhood vs. Adulthood in Room . The conclusion sums up the findings of the thesis.
