  • 2. Religion

Some believe that religion is like the spokes in a wheel.
The outside circle represents all of the people on the earth.
The spokes represent all of the religions on the earth.
The hub in the center represents the place where all of the religions take all of the people.
That is a good picture as long as you realize that the common hub of every religion is hell.

  • 3. The word religion appears five times in the Holy Bible.
Three of the five times Paul uses the word to explain his hopeless condition and how he was vainly working to gain a relationship with God.
The fourth time James uses the word he says “religion is vain” if the tongue is not bridled.
Matthew 12:34 explains that what a man says comes from his heart. The heart does not refer to the blood pumping organ but the soul of man.
The fifth time religion appears in the Holy Bible he is wrapping up an explanation of a relationship and the next verse gives a strong hint how to change from religion to relationship.

  • 4. Repentance
Repentance is a change of mind that always leads to a change in life.
    Galatians 3:24
Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
God’s law with the conviction of the Holy Spirit brings us to the point of repentance.

  • 5. John 20
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
The gospel of John was written for two reasons
    That ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God;
That believing ye might have life through his name.

  • 6. How to be born again into the family of God by faith in Jesus Christ is throughout the gospel of John.
Nowhere in the book is any form of the word repentance found but that does not mean that you do not have to repent to be saved from hell it simply confirms that when you commit your soul to Jesus Christ by faith you have repented.
When I was nine years old I was told in Sunday school that if I would keep the Ten Commandments for one week that I would earn heaven.
I tried for weeks and gave up.
Years later I received the gospel of salvation.

  • 7. Before trusting Christ as my saviour I had to change what I believed.
    That is repentance.
Turning from sin is the result of the Holy Spirit coming in and cleansing the new believer.
God’s law reveals our need for him before and after salvation.

  • 8. Here is the complete package in order:

JimLaneEvangelist.com Missionary Evangelism taking the Great Commission into all the world
  • 21. You do not turn from sin to get saved.
You get saved so that you can turn from sin.
If you believe repentance is turning from sin then you have added works to the gospel.
If you do not turn from sin after believing you were not saved. Because Jesus gives a new life.

  • 22. 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
8-9 is the gospel 10 is the results of the new birth.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2

  • 23. To have the change of mind that will take you to heaven when you pass from this life you must know the truth then you can be set free from the shackles that Satan has on you. After you are in the family of God by faith in Jesus the need to repent continues because of carnal thinking.
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32

  • 24. You have not measured up to God’s holy standard.
Jesus Christ is God’s holy standard and the glory of God.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23To sin means to miss the mark.
    You have earned Hell.
For the wages of sin is death; Romans 6:23a
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. Revelation 20:14
Jesus Christ is the mark. Anything short misses the target and is destined for hell.

  • 25. Religion seeks to do 3 things
    • Strengthens our arms
    • 26. Give us “better” weapons
    • 27. Move the target nearer and lower the standard so everyone can reach.
Reality is a relationship with God and reveals 3 things
    • The arm of flesh will fail you. See II Chronicles 32:8, Zechariah 4:6
    • 28. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal. II Corinthians 10:4-5
    • 29. Teaches us we were not even on the right range. Titus 3:5-6
JimLaneEvangelist.com Missionary Evangelism taking the Great Commission into all the world
  • 30. 3. Jesus paid all of your sin debt.
. . . but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23b
Jesus did not make a down payment and leave the rest up to us.
    He paid it all.
When we are saved we come into the family of God, He is our father, and we become His children.
The erring child will be disciplined.
My children can become bitter like the prodigal son but they are still my children and I am still their father.
JimLaneEvangelist.comMissionary Evangelism taking the Great Commission into all the world
  • 31. You must commit your soul to Jesus by crying out to Him in faith.
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10
Believing that Jesus is the saviour of the world is accepting historical facts intellectually.
Committing my soul to His eternal keeping is salvation and telling others is the evidence that it really happened.
Repentance is a paradigm shift, a complete change of thinking that transforms the way one thinks and lives.
    Proverbs 11:30
JimLaneEvangelist.com Missionary Evangelism taking the Great Commission into all the world
  • 32. Relationship
When you trust Jesus as saviour
    God becomes your father,
you become his son and a joint heir with Jesus of all that he has.
How much of it you take before you go to heaven is up to you.
God takes the relationship very serious and wants more than you can imagine for your life even before heaven.

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.Hebrews 12
JimLaneEvangelist.comMissionary Evangelism taking the Great Commission into all the world
  • 33. You are hereby put on notice that every son will receive chastening. Religion comes natural. A relationship with God requires regular repentance (changes of mind) and many trips to the altar.
The 7 fundamentals of a Christian's daily walk will build your relationships.

Holy Bible: tells us how to know him
Prayer: tells us how well we know him
Faith: tells by our works we know him
Spouse: tells our mate we know him
Children: tells neighbors we know him
Church: tells Christians we know him
World: tells the lost how to know him
These are the priorities of every Christian listed in order.
Priority 7 is the number one goal.
If you skip over the relationship priorities to reach the goal the world will see you as a hypocrite and reject your message.

  • 34. Religion comes from Latin and means to bind back.
    Jesus paid it all.
Forget all religion and build a relationship with the one that paid it all and is seated at the right hand of God praying for you and works as your lawyer to the Father.
If you do not confess to your advocate, Jesus Christ all your sins he will not be able to properly represent you before the Father because our adversary the devil is accusing us before the Father.
    I John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
    Proverbs 11:30
