The petrol/air preheating system can be employed successfully for the preheating of rail ends
for Aluminothermic Welding. This preheating system is an alternative to the oxygen / propane
and or the propane / air preheating methods. The petrol / air preheating system is an ideal
solution where LP Gas and oxygen are not readily available or could pose logistical problems.
This system can be easily deployed and utilised in remote areas i.e. deserts or rural areas.
The Petrol/Air Preheating Unit consists mainly of the following component parts:
• Honda GX160 5.5HP OHV or Robin-EY20 single cylinder petrol engine
• Sutorbilt model 2MP compressor with air cleaner and belt driven from the engine
• 12 Litre petrol tank, slightly pressurized from air admission into the top of the tank
from the Sutorbilt compressor
• Piping and valve assembly unit for the air/petrol regulation consisting of;
• One way valve at the front end of the air train connected to the compressor via
high pressure rubber hose, with an air pressure regulator, discharge port with non
return air valve for air supply to the petrol tank, petrol flow needle valve, two
non-return valves and hose connection.
• 5 meter hose connected to a Petrol /Air combustion burner.
All the component parts are mounted on a wheel barrow type frame having two rubber wheels
and two underside polyurethane rollers for ease of movement on rail.
The whole unit is protected with a bolt-on cover plate.

preheating methods. The petrol / air preheating system is an ideal solution where LP Gas and
oxygen are not readily available or could pose logistical problems. It can be easily deployed and
utilised in remote areas i.e. deserts or rural areas as long as a generator with a voltage stabiliser
and minimum 220Volt is available.
The Petrol/Air Preheating Unit consists mainly of the following component parts:

All the component parts are mounted on a flat base plate on four rubber foot mountings.
The whole unit is protected with a bolt-on cover plate.
