    •  Since 2010 I've helped thousands of students do A+ work. I want you to have the best grades, but more importantly I want to help you.
    •  BSHS441 / BSHS 441 / ENTIRE CLASS/COURSE TUTORIAL INCLUDES EVERYTHING LISTED
    •  Specific Population and the Advocate Role Paper Write a 1- to 2-page paper that addresses the issue of advocacy in the human services field. Choose a specific population, such as those who are homeless, persons with disabilities, persons with AIDS, and so on. Include a personal perspective on how you as an advocate may assist with problems such as housing, treatment, short- and long-term medical care, education, probation, and domestic violence.
    •  Week 1 DQ 1 Define the following terms and describe the role of the human services worker in regard to each function; provide an example of how each might be used: o Advocacy o Mediation o Arbitration o Mediation-arbitration
    •  Week 1 DQ 2 Describe three ethical issues involved when taking the role of mediator and provide examples of each.
    •  Individual Mediation and Advocacy Literature Review Visit at least three websites and explore the information available linking mediation and advocacy to human services. Refer to the website. http://www.mediate.com/articles/boskey.cfm Submit a summary of your review. By way of submitting a summary of the websites, identify the websites, summarize them, provide reference citations to them and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of what they offer to those who visit their sites. Your paper should contain correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation and be well-organized. APA style is the required format in the BSHS curriculum. (Your sources will be utilized as references for the literature search paper due in Week Four. These websites need to be serving people on a national and/or international scale.) Report should have an Introduction and Conclusion and be approximately 2-3 pages in length.
    •  Interview of a Social Service Agency Using Advocates Conduct an interview at one social service agency that uses advocates within their agency. Interview an individual who works either as an advocate or as a representative who can discuss the role of advocacy within the agency. Prepare a 1- to 2-page written summary of the interview, to be used as part of your final presentation in Week Five, in the summary: Name the agency or organization and title of the interviewee. Describe the advocacy role this individual plays within the agency.
    •  Week 2 DQ 1 Describe conflict styles and discuss how you, as a mediator, might increase positive interaction in mediation with someone of each style.
    •  Week 2 DQ 2 Compare and contrast interest-based negotiation with power- and rights-based negotiations.
    •  Challenges of Being an Advocate and Neutral Facilitator Write a 1- to 2-page paper, in which you explore the ethical, moral, and legal challenges of potential dual relationships as an advocate or mediator. Present your opinion on the integration of advocacy and mediation within the human services field. Identify your personal philosophy and individual approach to advocating and mediating within a specific agency setting, including Planned Parenthood, Adult Probation, Department of Behavioral Health Services, and Advocates for the Seriously Mentally Ill.
    •  Interview another agency that uses mediation or other conflict resolution processes either internally for employee disputes or externally for client advocacy. This may be within a social service agency, court system, or corporation. You must use a different agency from the one you used for the interview in Week Two. Use of similar interview questions to the ones you used before is acceptable, but include discussion of the following topics: Mediator neutrality and impartiality Confidentiality Mediator bias Limitations of the mediator Scope of power Conflict of interest Submit a 1- to 2-page summary of your interview to the facilitator.
    •  Week 3 DQ 1 Describe a win/win negotiation and give an example.
    •  Week 3 DQ 2 Define BATNA.
    •  Week 4 DQ 1 How does a human services worker integrate the use of mediation, or third-party neutrality, when he or she also serves as an advocate for the client and is an employee of the agency?
    •  Week 4 DQ 2 Describe the philosophical positions of the major political parties on providing social services for the homeless, the poor, victims of disasters, victims of prejudice, children, and single parents.
    •  Conduct an interview with a social services lobbyist within your State Legislature. Use the same form of interview questions as in previous group interviews but include the following: Discuss the role of the lobbyist as a social advocate. How do their positions as lobbyists affect social policy changes? How are dollars for human services acquired? What role do they play? Does the interviewee see his or her role as a policy changer or funding advocate? Why? What does he or she envision as the future for human services? Are we, as a society, funding more or less to those in need in the future?
    •  Prepare a 2- to 3-page paper expanding on the literature review submitted in Week Two. Explore the existing integration of mediation and advocacy within a human services agency on a national or international level. Summarize the findings from your three sources. Discuss whether you believe mediation is appropriate for those specific populations.
    •  Week 5 DQ 1 Who holds the power for creating social change within the social service industry? Support your answer.
    •  Week 5 DQ 2 Can we have client advocacy, a forum for conflict resolution, and agents for policy change without competing for limited dollars and resources? Why? What do you see as the most vital function?
    •  Prepare a 12-15 Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation. Include your Internet search findings, and key notes of the interview with a with a social agency representative. Provide a summary of the interview along with a brief commentary on the future of mediation and advocacy in this country and the role of the human services worker in these processes.
