Prayer request from gretchen and updates from haiti

  1. 1. Prayer request from Gretchen and updates from Haitihttp://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/...lpk6IwAB0FNFVITHVu8rchN8xTiZMAQSahIPSuvmZVcPJkNPYQfc_TYEYrM3dhH7PM%3D[6/11/2013 8:55:52 AM] Dear Friends, Greetings!  Our deepest gratitude comes to you from GrandGoave, Haiti where Bob and I have spent a good part of thiscalendar year.  As always, there is a lot of ministry happeninghere!  For me, one of the highlights of the day was when Isaac walked inand presented me with a list of 48 names from our LaregalChristian Church who accepted Christ and then were baptizedduring a recent revival!  And one of the greatest joys is that manyare graduates of our school there! As you keep these new young Christians in your prayers, Iwant to share two other things for you to pray about:Bob & I are taking a 3 month sabbatical this summerThis is the first one ever in 33 years!  From time to time wewould grab a week of vacation, but this is our first real "timeoff" since we started Lifeline in November 1980. We areworking extra hard to have things in great shape while weare on sabbatical.  During that time, we plan to openourselves to the Holy Spirits leading as we plan the bookwe hope to write and celebrate 50 years of marriage onAugust 31!  We have mixed emotions about this time offbecause we are so used to being active and love our callingbut, at the same time, we know we need it and God hasprovided many great staff persons to carry the load.  Thistime will also give the staff the opportunity to further prepare
  2. 2. Prayer request from Gretchen and updates from Haitihttp://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/...lpk6IwAB0FNFVITHVu8rchN8xTiZMAQSahIPSuvmZVcPJkNPYQfc_TYEYrM3dhH7PM%3D[6/11/2013 8:55:52 AM]  to lead Lifeline as our time of retirement approaches. Financial needs are great right now We continue to makeprogress in planning for speed bumps in our cash flowroad, but we are trailing behind. The past month, incomehas been 50% of the average weekly need.  Thats huge. So we are simply asking you, our dear friends andsupporters, to consider making an additional summer giftthat could get us through this challenging time. Here areways you can give to impact ministry this summer:Donate online and your gift will be used where it ismost needed to impact lives. Give a ministry-specific gift at Lifelines onlinedonation site. Stocks and appreciated securities are another way togive; contact Ben@Lifeline.org to begin the process.  Send your gift by check to Lifelines office.    For our Canadian friends: direct your gifts to LifelineChristian Mission - Canada at LifelineMission.ca.And please share this with your friends who can join in withthis special summer gift.   Because of your ministry partnership through your gifts andprayers, lives are being impacted, not only here, but in all Lifelinesministry countries!  We see so many blessings and excitinghappenings here in Haiti right now; here are a few I want to sharewith you:   Work TeamsWe have a team with 48 people here now; it is the fourthteam in a row that we are leading and this is the third healthcare team in the past 6 weeks.  The teams have beenserving their hearts out and seeing hundreds of patients aday; some very needy people and we see many unusualcases.Congratulations! On Tuesday, at 4:56 a.m. I got a text on my Haiti cell fromPastor Luc...his wife, Louise, gave birth to a beautiful babygirl at the Doctors Without Borders hospital in Leogane. Their youngest child is 8 and there are 2 older siblings, sothis baby was a bit of a surprise!  Mother and baby are welland a baby layette will make it there via our team!New Childrens HomeAnother exciting thing is that the new Childrens Home, hereon the Grand Goave campus, is now under construction.Bob is in his element when hes working on these typesprojects for the children.  We keep our focus on the livesthat will be changed for eternity when these children growup in this Christian Childrens Home, which is designed tohold about 76 children, like our Home in Port au Prince. Denny Claude is the "Boss Mason" on the Childrens Home
  3. 3. Prayer request from Gretchen and updates from Haitihttp://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/...lpk6IwAB0FNFVITHVu8rchN8xTiZMAQSahIPSuvmZVcPJkNPYQfc_TYEYrM3dhH7PM%3D[6/11/2013 8:55:52 AM]  and he is so dedicated to this work.Food & Ministry SuppliesOther good news is that the shipping containers of food andsupplies are now starting to flow again after enduring about18 months of "famine" (not quite, but a good description)without much food flowing our way.  The Haitiangovernment has instituted some new rules and is trying tomake things easier for NGOs (non-governmentorganizations) like Lifeline to get our food and ministryneeds out more rapidly. So now we are ramping up ourdistribution again internally, as well as to other missions.Home BuildingWe also have constructed 5 homes this week. The workteam here has members who each funded one of thosehomes.  We have now constructed over 570 homes since2003 when we began this ministry!  So many have beenblessed.  In 2012, we constructed 88 homes; already thisyear weve constructed 63 homes with a total of 111 fundedthis year, so we are moving right along. Not only do therecipients benefit, but it provides 60 or so jobs for Haitianlaborers and masons. Almost all homes to be constructedthis year have donors coming and being present for theconstruction.Surprise!About 3 weeks ago our oldest son, Rob, was back in Haitifor the second time in less than a year. But this time hebrought his new bride with him. She surprised him bymaking her confession of faith here and he baptized her inthe ocean.  The stories are endless, as is the need.  In many ways we see major progress in Haiti, most prominentbeing the record numbers coming to Jesus here and in all thecountries where Lifeline serves Jesus and His people!  There aremore jobs in Haiti, better roads and an emerging middle class. But the old adage "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer" isevident here...while we see improvements, the level of povertyamong the poorest is worsening.  We are seeing increasingnumbers of:families in hungerchildren suffering from malnutritionwomen without decent homes to live in who have beenabandoned by the fathers of their childrenIt is so hard to get the adult women to change their thinking andrecognize there is more.  We DO see hope in the young ladies

This is one area where I do the most teaching - andsort of "preaching" - to these precious young women. We haveabout 140 prenatal women and I talk to them each month when Imhere and encourage them to give their babies the best gift ever:the gift of Jesus! Well, Ive rattled on long enough and I have an earlymorning tomorrow as we go to one of our outpost school andchurch locations to distribute sponsor gifts, baby layettes, and gointo the community to pray with needy members of the church atDeuxieme Plaine.  So I better get to bed. Thank you again for your friendship and support over theyears and for your "hands on" involvement!  Bob and I wouldlove to hear from you and know what God is doing in your lives.Thank you again for all the ways you encourage, support andremain involved in what God is doing through Lifeline.  Weappreciate your sacrifice in partnership with us. Blessings and love are coming your way across the ocean! For the cause of Christ we serve,Bob & Gretchen DeVoeLifeline Founders                      Discover more at www.Lifeline.org STAY CONNECTED          Forward this emailThis email was sent to missionsrvcs@gmail.com by news@lifeline.org |  Update Profile/Email Address | Instant removal with SafeUnsubscribe™ | Privacy Policy.Lifeline Christian Mission | 921 Eastwind Drive, Suite 133 | Westerville | OH | 43081-3363
