2014 June Cross Cultural Connection

  1. 1. 2014 June 1 Newsletter Cross Cultural Connection   Dear  Prayer  Partners  and  Supporters,   Here  it  is  June  1  already.    We  have  exciting  things  to  look  forward  to  starting  Tomorrow!    Tomorrow  is  Dragon   Boat  Festival  in  Hong  Kong,  a  public  holiday.    Many  people  will  be  watching  the  dragon  boat  races  and  eating   rice  dumplings  (jung)  and  having  get  togethers  with  friends  and  family.    I  think  we  have  something  more  exciting   to  do.    The  Fairview  Park  Christian  Church  (FPCC)  will  be  presenting  a  program  for  the  nearby  Home  of  Loving   Faithfulness  (HOLF).    This  is  exciting  because  we  have  a  lot  of  people  involved,  it  is  one  of  those  events  that   brings  all  ages  together  for  a  common  goal.    Holf  is  a  home  dedicated  to  loving,  teaching  and  helping  severely   handicapped  people.    They  have  21-‐22  residents,  some  of  them  having  lived  at  the  home  since  it  started  in  1965   almost  50  years  ago.    The  faith  of  the  two  ladies  that  started  HOLF  is  very  much  worth  reading  about.    Please   look  them  up  on  the  internet  at  their  website:    www.holf.org.hk.     FPCC  is  still  looking  for  a  minister.    We  did  investigate  one  more  possibility,  but  it  did  not  work  out.  Meanwhile   Scott  is  doing  a  great  job.  Scott  does  most  of  the  preaching  with  others  speaking  as  they  may  be  in  the  area  or   volunteer.    Co-‐worker,  Jim  Mollette,  had  been  preaching  once  a  month,  but  he  has  returned  to  Oklahoma  until   September.    Our  church  is  active  and  committed  to  unity.    Our  theme  verse  for  the  year  is  Ephesians  4:3-‐6.     If  you  remember,  when  Ken  died,  he  and  Al  Corson  of  Insight  Resources  International  (IRI)  were  working   together  to  incorporate  their  different  teaching  methods.    Al  will  be  back  in  Hong  Kong  in  October/November.    I   am  planning  to  go  with  him  on  a  trip  to  the  Philippines  and  then  to  Myanmar.    The  trip  to  Myanmar  is  having   some  difficulties.    Please  pray  for  those  things  to  be  sorted  out.     In  fact,  the  next  several  months  may  become  quite  busy!    My  daughter  Sara  and  two  of  her  daughters  will  come   for  a  visit  in  July.    Needless  to  say,  I  am  looking  forward  to  that.    Granddaughter  Jennifer  just  graduated  from   high  school.    Jim  Mollette  will  return  in  September  to  resume  his  teaching  responsibilities  at  Chinese  Christian   Seminary  (This  school  started  in  1979  as  a  result  of  teamwork  with  Ken  and  me,  David  and  Lynn  Poling  and  Wing   and  Conita  Wong.)    Al  Corsin  will  come  in  November/December.    The  dates  are  not  set  in  concrete  yet.    Al  will   bring  a  co-‐worker,  Leonard,  from  Mozambique,  South  Africa.    Jason  Nichols  will  be  here  in  October.    There  are   two  passing  through  last  week  and  this  week  on  their  way  to  China.     Prayer  requests  for  you!    And  a  heartfelt  thanks  for  your  continued  prayer  support.       1.    I  mentioned  Chinese  Christian  Seminary  above,  so  you  could  make  the  connection  between  me  and  David   Poling.    David  is  in  serious  need  of  hip  surgery  on  both  hips.    The  first  one  is  scheduled  SOON,  June  9.       2.    My  appointment  with  the  eye  clinic  is  also  June  9.    I  will  be  making  a  decision  about  surgery  for  the  macular   hole  that  I  have.   3.    My  family  members:    My  cousin,  Ranata:    Her  husband  Wayne  Byrd  died  suddenly  last  week.    My  uncle  Rand   is  recovering  from  a  stroke,  my  uncle  Darrell  just  had  major  heart  surgery  and  my  Dad  who  has  had  several   episodes  of  bad  health  recently.   4.    FPCC’s  search  for  a  minister/youth  minister.   5.    Future  mission  trips  planned  to  Philippines  and  Myanmar  with  IRI.    And  Jason’s  trip  to  HK  in  October.
  2. 2.   Some  pictures  for  your  further  information  and  enjoyment:       Vincent  Wong  is  helping     restore  my  unbendable     finger  to  bendable  status.       Ouch,  but  it  is  working.     Kids  helping  with  dishes  after   Sunday  fellowship  lunch.    The   lunches  are  an  every  Sunday   happening.           Boys  helping  set  up    tables  for  Sunday  lunch.     Practicing  skit  for  HOLF   presentation.           Everyone   helping   to   make   origami  hearts  to  give  as  gifts     for  the  HOLF  residents.   They  wrote  Jesus  Loves  You  in   English   and   Chinese   on   the   hearts.               Disciples.     Recent  supper  with  Willie  and   Miranda  Yeung  visiting  from   Australia.
