Michelle Kane Final Presentation

 1. 1. Wikis, Blogs, and Web Publishing Final Presentation Michelle Kane
 2. 2. Most Useful Tools

Wiki

Although I found it to be the most time consuming, it was my favorite.

It is a great collaboration tool.

The uses are endless - This will be great to use in the classroom when I return to teaching, but I used mine for our family printing company.

 3. 3. Most Useful Tools, Continued

RSS

It is, in fact, “really simple”. It took only a few minutes to set up and has a wide array of gadgets to choose from.

The news now comes to me.

Because I already have a Google account I chose iGoogle as my reader and it was a snap to add as my home page.

I now start the day a little more organized.

 4. 4. Most Useful Tools, Continued

Blog

I think this would be my most useful tool if I were still in the classroom. There is so much you could do with it ---

Practice reading and writing, seek out other resources, connect with others outside the classroom….

Being a parent, I love the idea of being connected to what’s going on inside my children’s classroom.

Professionally, they are a wonderful way to set up networking.

 5. 5. Most Useful Tools, Continued

Animoto

What a great way to add pizzazz to your pictures. I was able to make a professional looking video in minutes.

It was very simple and easy to use.

The music selection was great, but you even had the option of uploading your own music.

My kids couldn’t wait to experiment with making their own videos.

 6. 6. Successes and Challenges

Overall, the whole course was a success. I learned a great deal.

The wiki was my most challenging. My biggest hurdle was rationing my time. There was so much you could incorporate into the wiki I needed to budget my time better. I would still like to add more into this -- so for now I would have to consider it a “work in progress”.

 7. 7. More Successes and Challenges

When choosing a wiki site I chose PBworks. I thought it would be a better fit due to the fact I was using it for business instead of education. I chose the “basic” package and I thought I would be able to “dress it up” more. I would like to see if Wikispaces or another site has more options.

 8. 8. Moodle and Online Learning

This was my first experience with an online course. I don’t think I could have had a better experience.

Moodle was easy to use. All of the lessons were well thought out and there were plenty of tutorials.

I didn’t feel like I was stuck on an island – when I did hit a roadblock, I felt I could easily get in contact with a teacher or even others in the class.

The biggest plus was the schedule. I could work on the assignments any time and at my own pace.

I would definitely sign up for another class.

 9. 9. My Collection of Work

My Wiki

http://michellekane.pbworks.com

My iGoogleRSS

http://www.slideshare.net/thehurrikanes/rss-3956539

My Blog

http://www.thehurrikanes.blogspot.com

My Web Publishing Tool

http://animoto.com/play/WKHYsBeDSY3DzfViGIanpA

 10. 10. Thanks

I was a bit apprehensive about this class. It was very enjoyable and I learned a great deal. I’m excited to experiment a little more with some of the web tools. I’ll be looking forward to signing up for another Moodle class with you.
