The Taiwan American Teacher Exchange Program is
managed by the GS Graduate School in Washington DC and the
Ministry of Education in Taiwan. The program offers an opportunity
for interested candidates to be employed and serve as visiting teachers
in Taiwanese schools for one year in order to facilitate the exchange of
knowledge, experience, and teaching techniques.
All participants must have completed a university degree program, hold
at least a bachelor’s degree, and be certified to teach by State
Education Authorities in the United States for teaching Grades 1-6 or
teaching English in 7-9 (a degree diploma and a teacher certificate).
Preference is given to applicants who have experience in teaching
English as a native language or teaching English as a second
language.
Participants take a year of sabbatical from their home school and are
paid a salary by their hosting school in Taiwan. Reggie Mitchell and
Tammy Wooden are two participants from the 2008-2009 program.
