  • 3. 1.1 There was a king called Achashverosh, who ruled over 127 countries
  • 4. 1.3 He made a huge party lasting 180 days for everyone
  • 5. 1.5 And one for 7 days for just his close friends
  • 6. 1.8 Achashverosh had quite a lot to drink…
  • 7. 1.11 And he asked his wife Vashti to come to the party
  • 8. 1.12 She refused
  • 9. 1.19 Bad mistake
  • 10. 2.1 Achashverosh was rather lonely
  • 11. 2.3 So wanted to find a new wife
  • 12. 2.8 They organised a beauty pageant, forcing girls from all over the kingdom to come to find a new wife
  • 13. 2.12 They had a year of beauty treatments
  • 14. 2.17 Esther got married to Achashverosh
  • 15. 2.18 And was crowned queen
  • 16. 2.20 She kept her Jewish identity hidden, but still kept Kosher and Shabbat in the palace
  • 17. 2.21 Mordechai overheard Bigtan and Teresh plotting to kill Achashverosh
  • 18. 3.1 Haman was promoted to be prime minister
  • 19. 3.2 He made everyone bow down to him
  • 20. 3.4 But Mordechai refused
  • 21. 3.5 Because he was Jewish
  • 22. 3.7 Haman got very, very angry because of this…
  • 23. 3.9 And paid Achashverosh to be allowed to kill all of the Jews
  • 24. 3.13 They posted letters to all the empire with details of the plot
  • 25. 4.1 Mordechai discovered the plan to kill the Jews
  • 26. 4.7 He told Esther about the plan
  • 27. 4.11 Esther was worried about going to see Achashverosh
  • 28. 4.16 They gathered all of the Jews to pray
  • 29. 5.1 Esther dressed in her royal clothes to speak to Achashverosh
  • 30. 5.4 She invited Achashverosh and Haman to a party
  • 31. To discuss her wishes to save the Jews
  • 32. 5.7 At the party she invited Achashverosh and Haman back to another party
  • 33. 5.9 Haman is delighted to be invited to the party…
  • 34. 5.14 But when he saw Mordechai he decided to kill him, and built a gallows to hang him on
  • 35. 6.1 Achashverosh couldnt sleep one night…
  • 36. 6.2 And asked to read the Book of Chronicles, and realised he hadn’t repaid Mordechai for saving his life
  • 37. 6.6 Achashverosh asked Haman how to reward someone. Haman doesn’t know he is speaking about Mordechai
  • 38. 6.11 Mordechai rode the King’s horse through town, wearing royal robes, as the reward
  • 39. 6.13 Haman went home, realising that he has started to fall against the Jews
  • 40. 7.1 They all went to the second party
  • 41. 7.3 And Esther revealed she is Jewish, and that Haman wants to kill her as well
  • 42. 7.7 Achashverosh got very angry at Haman
  • 43. 7.10 Achashverosh had Haman hung, on the gallows he built for Mordechai
  • 44. 8.2 Afterwards Mordechai is made Prime Minister
  • 45. 8.3 However the decree to kill the Jews still stood
  • 46. 8.3 They got permission from Achashverosh to defend themselves
  • 47. And they prayed to Hashem for help
  • 48. 8.14 They rushed out messages to the Jews
  • 49. 8.15 Mordechai became famous and feared
  • 50. 8.16 The Jews were overjoyed at the turn of events
  • 51. 9.2 It was like a fight between David and Goliath…
  • 52. 9.12 But the Jews won a miraculous victory
  • 53. 9.20 Mordechai wrote letters to all of the Jews telling them of the miracles
  • 54. 9.19 The four mitzvot of Purim - gifts of food
  • 55. 9.22 Giving charity to the poor
  • 56. 9.22 Having a festive meal
  • 57. 9.26 Reading the Megillah
  • 58. So dress up…
  • 59. And Party!!!
