  • 2. DEFINITION 2  Foods that are packaged in boxes, cans or bags.  Ingredient list.
  • 3. INGREDIENT LIST 3  Sugar, water, fat, flour, starch, artificial colorings and flavors.  Vegetable oils :Corn oil, Cottonseed oil, Soybean oil, Canola oil or Safflower oil.
  • 4. BAD FOOD 4  Too much salty.  Low little Fiber.  Trans-Fats.  Sugar.
  • 5. TYPES 5  Canned foods.  Pasta meals.  Packaged high-calorie snack: Chips and Candies.  Frozen dinners.  Packaged cakes and cookies.  Boxed meal.  Sugary breakfast cereals.  Processed meats.
  • 6. ECONOMY 6  Wastes over $33 billion per year in advertising.  In 2002: Industry sold over $174 billion.  Cost of diabetes is estimated at over $174 billion.
  • 7. U.S. OBESITY EPIDEMIC 7
  • 8. HEALTH RISKS 8  Heart disease.  Diabetes.  High blood pressure.  Obesity.  High cholesterol .  Arthritis/joint problems.  Depression/stress.  Kidney failure / cancer  and stomach cancer.
  • 9. U.S. FACTS 9 2 in 3 adults: overweight or obese. 1 in 3 adults: obese. 1 in 20 adults: extremely obese.  1/3 children (6-19) : overweight or obese 1 in 6 children: considered obese.  50% overweight people: diabetes. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2009-2010)
  • 10. SOON IN U.S. 10  2015: 24% of children and adolescents, overweight or obese.  75% of adults being overweight.  With 41% being obese.
  • 11. BODY MASS INDEX 11  BMI= Weight / (Height)²  Overweight = Over 25.  Normal weight = 18 – 24.
  • 12. WHAT TO DO? 12  Exercise More.  Eat healthy Food.
