Startedby: Observation & Hypothesis Steve Blanks book Four Steps to the Epiphany popularized the "Customer Development" model as an entrepreneurial framework  Eric Ries blog Startup Lessons Learned and book The Lean Startup furthered the idea of building a “minimum viable product” (MVP) Entrepreneurs such as Drew Houston (Dropbox) who have used the Minimum Viable Product approach successfully have increased the popularity of the LEAN methodology One of the most difficult tasks for Entrepreneurs is finding the right co- founders who have both interest in the product category and offer a complimentary skill set Another difficult task for entrepreneurs is connecting with the right service providers (e.g. lawyers, accountants, bankers, etc) and other people (e.g. angel investors, business partners, advisors, etc) who can help them grow their company Trevor Goss
  • 4. Startedby: Observations & Hypothesis (continued)Hypothesis: Given that entrepreneurs are increasingly realizing that their startup “ideas”will require multiple iterations before achieving “Product/Market Fit” (PMF) and are takingto heart the lessons of Four Steps to the Epiphany and Lean Startup, it seems like aproduct that could help entrepreneurs test assumptions and get feedback on theirproducts/services early in (or before) the product development cycle would be a valuabletool for executing on the suggestions of those entrepreneurial frameworks.Secondarily, the nature of providing feedback and otherwise engaging with someone’sidea would provide an opportunity for two or more people to form a startup team basedon their shared interest in the product or service, thus aiding entrepreneurs who arelooking for co-founders. • 17. Branding/Tag Line Our big idea is to help you start yours Naming Origins: Name is intended to be short, memorable and convey the action-oriented nature of entrepreneurs and startups. Also intended to play on the ego (most entrepreneurs have an abundance of it) that goes with being a person/team that starts something new. Tag Line Origins: Tag line intended to convey that the people behind the company readily understand the nature of a startup and are building a product/company based on that understanding. It’s the “we get it too” mentality espoused in a tag line. Trevor Goss
  • 18. Project Status ed n tinu co Dis• My co-founders and I discontinued the project after observing the traction gained by Angel List (angel.co) and their subsequent move into adjacent product areas where my team and I had envisioned expanding Startedby.• We concluded that continuing down this path would be an uphill fight and one we weren’t well positioned to win.
