Revolutions-Compromise <ul><li>The crown worked out a compromise in between imperial power and colonial </li></ul><ul><li>Colonies and mother countries became intertwined and dependent on each other in trade </li></ul><ul><li>Taxes in trade heightened and the colonies had to take a stand </li></ul>
  3. 3. Revolutions- Men and Money <ul><li>King William of England went to war with France. </li></ul><ul><li>The English had to spend a lot of money building a larger army and Navy to compete with France. </li></ul><ul><li>This caused a massive increase in taxes </li></ul><ul><li>The English fought the Nine Years War and built a fiscal-military state </li></ul>
  4. 4. The Atlantic-News <ul><li>By 1730 ships arrived from England more frequently with letters and newspapers. </li></ul><ul><li>Colonists felt more informed about events happening in Europe </li></ul><ul><li>Newspapers in the colonies addressed the merchant community </li></ul>
  5. 5. The Atlantic-Trade <ul><li>Trade became very complex </li></ul><ul><li>A multilateral trading system was used to exchange goods </li></ul><ul><li>Tobacco and Sugar were shipped to England </li></ul><ul><li>Fish, provisions, and lumber were shipped to the West Indies </li></ul>

Awakenings-Revivals <ul><li>“ Revivals”-surges in fervor and new members </li></ul><ul><li>Emphasized the emotional process of conversion that changed sinners into saints </li></ul><ul><li>Ministers preached “soul-searching” sermons </li></ul><ul><li>These “awakenings” appealed emotionally to the audience, such fear and Hope </li></ul>

The Great Plains-Genizaros <ul><li>In the 17 th the Spanish commandeered the Pueblo people by founding a Colony </li></ul><ul><li>Genizaros were 'detribalized' captives of the Nomads and labored as ranch or domestic laborers </li></ul><ul><li>After 1740 freed genizaros formed communities and obtain land on the frontier margin </li></ul>

Imperial Wars and Crisis- Indian Rebellions <ul><li>Indians couldn't maintain their independence any longer. </li></ul><ul><li>Most colonists had cheated and abused the Indians </li></ul><ul><li>In 1759 Cherokee warriors killed 30 settlers, which encouraged other rebellions </li></ul><ul><li>To avoid war British military gave the Indians presents and created long term relationships and allies </li></ul>
  9. 9. The Pacific-Alta California <ul><li>In the1760's the Spanish Crown ordered the colonization of California </li></ul><ul><li>Alta California had diverse weather conditions as well as great Indian cultural diversity </li></ul><ul><li>The Spanish regarded California as a wilderness </li></ul>

The Pacific-Nootka <ul><li>Captain Cook explored the sea along the coast of Northern America </li></ul><ul><li>While exploring Cook found that there were many Natives on the coasts spoke different languages and had different cultures </li></ul><ul><li>Cook traded on the coast of Nootka were the Natives had a “hard bargain” </li></ul><ul><li>Nootka became a common trading group </li></ul>
