Test Drive Technologies Fair Presentation 2009

 1. 1. TestDriveTechnologies
Mobile Vehicle Inspection Services
“The Ultimate Test Drive Experience”
2. 2. A Test Drive Inspection
Complete Exterior Inspection of Vehicle
Title History
Interior Condition Reporting
Undercarriage Evaluation
Mechanical Check-up
Road Test
Present Value
3. 3. Paint. More Than Just Color
Today’s paint is made up of 3 stages
Primer
Basecoat
Some specialty coats such as pearl is much thicker and has several separate coats
Base color
Pearl
Clear coat
Note: It’s important to know that a good body finish is one that is the same thickness on each panel
4. 4. The Good, Fair, & Ugly
Many collusion repair facilities repair vehicles back to near factory condition – This is a Good Repair
A good repair is one that the inspector can’t find with out pulling back trim and mounting bolts are repainted
It is not always possible to repair a vehicle back to OEM specification – This is a Fair Repair
Some paints are near impossible to match perfectly and body panels do not line up perfectly
Some vehicles get the “chop shop” repair
Runs in finish
Debris present in clear
Mismatched paint
5. 5. What is Previous Repair?
Any repair that requires filler to smooth the surface
A repair that requires replacement of a body panel
Damage that was through the basecoat of the finish and requires refinishing
6. 6. Is Finding Previous Repair OK? YES!
If:
It was repaired in a professional manner
Repaired with quality parts and materials
As long as it is undetectable to the untrained eye
7. 7. What Is a Touch-up?
Quick repair of chips on the hood (Road Rash Repair)
Painting and resurfacing of bumper areas
Paintless Dent Removal – Referred to as “PDR” (Dings & Dents removed)
Upholstery repairs (Seats, headliners & trim)
ALL TOUCH-UP REPAIRS OK AS LONG AS THEY ARE GOOD QUALITY
8. 8. You Check The Glass Too?
Yes we verify if the glass in the vehicle is factory or aftermarket and if there is damage present
Chips, cracks, scratches, & pitting lowers values
Good factory glass raises value (Dealers can sometimes replace with OEM glass, some take the cheaper route with aftermarket)
Replaced side or rear glass can mean forced entry has occurred! Further checks required!
9. 9. Oh No! A Negative CARFAX Report?
First words of advise! Don’t panic
Many vehicles show up with a CARFAX History
CARFAX often picks reports minor fender benders
CARFAX reported accident but you found damage still?
Owner decided not to get vehicle repaired
Many repairs are done satisfactory
That is why we inspect vehicles!
10. 10. Clean CARFAX
Just as many vehicles that have a negative CARFAX, show a clean CARFAX
Sometimes vehicles are repaired and not reported to insurance!
Dealers
The uninsured
Private accident (Backing into mailbox or garage)
That is why we inspect vehicles!
11. 11. Interior Inspection
Upholstery is reported on overall condition
Factory or aftermarket leather
Comfort and entertainment options
Safety features (Airbags, seatbelts, auto locks, child safety locks)
Books & Keys present
Check for operating components. (CD, NAVI, DVD.)
12. 12. More Than Just a Frame
Frames Provide
Safety in an accident
Handling in turns
Stopping distance
Comfort of ride
Mounting for body panels
Protection for electrical and fuel components
13. 13. What You Should Know About Vehicle Frames

The frame of you vehicle is like the frame of your house. A single weak link makes the whole house weak. A vehicle frame relies on teamwork of each component.
 14. 14. There is NO Good Repair on Frame components except quarter panels.
 15. 15. Replaced it. Repaired frame components are 90% more likely to fail vs. replaced components.

Structure Is What Keeps Your Family Safe
Unibody frames are designed for crumple zones, reduced weight, and softer rides
16. 16. Structure. It Is What Keeps Your Family Safe
Easier to repair and align after an accident
More likely to be damaged due to design
Safest type of frame for passengers
Found more common on Trucks, Vans, and Limousines
Strong and durable
17. 17.
 18. 18. Frame Repair
This is a left front rocker panel that is being repaired
Notice the incomplete welds
Left over slag from welding arcs
Deep scratches in metal
This will likely be hidden by body and paint work
Never seen again unless inspected correctly
This is an example of POOR frame repair techniques
This is being replaced with a used part from another vehicle. Frame components should always be NEW to ensure their structural integrity
19. 19. Example of Repaired Front Rail
Quality frame rail repair is

Smooth and consistent welds
 20. 20. Matching body mounts
 21. 21. OEM fasteners
 22. 22. Straight construction

Everyone's’ Nightmare

Free at some parts stores but does not tell you what is wrong.
 23. 23. 1 hour $75.00
 24. 24. 1.5 hours $100.00
 25. 25. 2 hours $150.00

Minimum of $150
Sometimes diagnostics is more than the repair!
Engine Diagnostics Cost
Transmission Diagnostics Cost:
Codes can be cleared by dealer and not reappear for months. Our mechanical check looks at possible worn parts and reports these BEFORE you buy! No more nightmares!
26. 26. Mechanical Inspections
What vehicles we inspect:
Sports cars
Luxury cars
Compact cars
Motorcycles and ATV’s
Limousines
Trucks
Buses
Boats (must be capable of being taken out of water)
Forklifts
What is inspected:
Tires & Wheels
Suspension
OBD II System
Fluids
Electrical & Ignition Systems
Passive Safety Systems (ABS, Airbags, Auto Seatbelts)
27. 27. The Ultimate Test Drive Experience
What is the Test Drive Experience:
For starters. Your in the driver’s seat. Buckled in tight. Mirrors adjusted how you like them. Seat just how you like it. Now it’s all up to you.
A Test Drive Technologies Inspector will ride with you and ask you to perform certain maneuvers to ensure you are comfortable with the vehicle and its handling. The technician will record your responses to questions asked of you after each maneuver. There is no sense in buying a car if you don’t like driving it.
We will test the vehicle in different environments. Rock roads, highway speeds, back roads, and the city streets.
Don’t worry, we’re not asking you to take a 90 degree corner at 60 MPH, just normal driving habits. What we are after is to make sure the car fits YOUR driving style.
After the technician has recorded your responses he or she will test drive the vehicle. Running it through a series of standardized test such as acceleration, braking, handling, and abrupt avoidance maneuvers to ensure the vehicle is in safe condition. A true Test Drive Inspection.
The customer is welcome to join but is not required for any of the Test Drive Experience.
28. 28. Making Sense of Pricing of Vehicle Options
Vehicle buying rules:
Know what you are looking for in a vehicle

Are you looking for something long term or just to get buy?

Know what size vehicle you need

Is this for the family or just commuter vehicle?

Know how much you can spend

Knowing how much to spend keeps you narrowed into price ranges. Know what you can afford before you go.

What is important to you in a vehicle

Comfort? Features? Ride? Handling?

Know what you are willing to spend on warrant, GAP, and other extras.

Extras add extra cost to loan that you pay interest on. Know what you want protected before you look at vehicles and figure that cost in to the vehicle

Know your credit score

If you know your credit rating you will have a better bargaining power for interest rates. Don’t get suckered into a higher rate because the dealer says your credit is not as good.

Get outside financing from you bank

Although manufacture financing is good for new vehicles, it sometimes has higher rates for pre-owned units. Get a loan where you have a reputation and history at. YOUR BANK! Dealers often make $$$ on the back end of your finance deal.

Q & A about Test Drive Inspections
Q: What is a Test Drive Inspection?
A: A test drive inspection is a type of inspection you would do on your own before negotiating a price on any vehicle used or new.
Q: Why should I get a Test Drive Inspection?
A: Because you need to make a sound decision on what you want to spend your money on.
Q: What is inspected?
A: Exterior body.
