    2. www.npgoodpractice.org What is the Nonprofit Good Practice Guide? The Nonprofit Good Practice Guide is a project of the Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership, an academic center of excellence affiliated with Grand Valley State University. Originally funded in 2002 by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the online Guide provides easily accessible and continuously updated information on virtually all aspects of managing a nonprofit organization. 
    3. www.npgoodpractice.org The Guide can be used as:
      • a quick online reference in preparation for meetings
      • a tool for searching for samples
      • as a training tool
      • for in-depth research
    4. www.npgoodpractice.org Resources – How are the organized?
      • Resources are organized in 5 different ways:
        • Topic Areas
        • Categories
        • Concepts
        • Media Types
        • Collections
    5. www.npgoodpractice.org Topic Areas The Guide currently has nine topic areas. The topic areas divide resources into broad subjects oriented to the nonprofit sector. Each topic area contains, categories & concepts that further divide them in to the subjects you are looking for.

    11. www.npgoodpractice.org Concepts Resources are further divided into concepts, based on each category. In this example, you can see the concepts Communication, Constructive Criticism, and Feedback can be found in the Communication category under the Volunteer Management topic. Concepts Category Topic
    12. www.npgoodpractice.org Concepts To access the list of concepts, follow the procedures for accessing a category (click on the Topics tab, then the topic you want to access), then: 2. Click on the concept you want to view. 1. Click on the category you want to explore.
    13. www.npgoodpractice.org Media Types Resources returned in searches and listed in concepts, are separated by media types. Media types are meant to help you find the exact resource you need, whether its part of sector news, research, training or tools. Icons located next to each resource tell you what kind of media type it is. Media Types
    14. www.npgoodpractice.org Media Types Web sites, blogs, newsletters, journals & magazines, Management Support Organizations & association Web sites, editorials, & podcasts that provide information on many subjects related to the topic. Articles, books, stories, case studies, reports, periodic studies, & podcasts that are purely informational. Courses, books, manuals, handbooks, tutorials, & podcasts created to teach or train on a particular subject. Checklists, forms, samples, toolkits, software, and charts or tables that can be used as examples or tools for organizations.
    15. www.npgoodpractice.org Finding Resources There are three ways to find resources on the Guide. 1. Click on the Topics tab on the Home Page. Click through the Category & Concept you want to look in.

You can type any keyword(s) related to the subject you would like information on. Type keyword(s) here Want to narrow your search? Specify a Topic Area to search in.
    18. www.npgoodpractice.org Resource Details Each resource has a detailed information page with information pertaining to the resource. Access the resource details by clicking on the resource title in your search list.
    19. www.npgoodpractice.org Resource Details Every resource has a detailed annotation to give users an idea of the resource’s content. There is a direct link to the resource. You also have the option to share the resource via email.
    20. www.npgoodpractice.org Resources Details Many resource detail pages also contain a Related box with glossary terms, or other concepts associated with information contained in the resource. Preferred Practices & Pitfalls provide you with quick tips related to the content of the resource.
    21. www.npgoodpractice.org Ask the Expert At the bottom of the Nonprofit Good Practice Guide’s home page you will find a section called Experts in Residence .
    22. www.npgoodpractice.org Ask the Expert Have a question requiring a deeper level of expertise or specificity? Click on the Contact Us Tab on the Home page. Fill in the needed information on the Contact Us page & put your question in the “Ask Our Experts” box. Your question will be forwarded to its related expert.
