  2. 2. Greetings! Within this brochure, you will find the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (UWHC) 2010 Oncology Nursing Education offerings. Over the next year, we will be providing several opportunities for nurses from your organization to interact with UWHC nurses. We often share in the care of patients from throughout the region and believe these oncology nursing courses improve care to all patients. This brochure also highlights the UW Carbone Cancer Center, including our Cancer Connect program. Cancer Connect staff are available to answer questions you may have about the UW Carbone Cancer Center for patients needing to come to UWHC for consultation, treatment or clinical trials participation. For classes at UWHC, please go to the information desk on the 2nd floor of the hospital and ask for directions to the room. Parking A parking ramp adjoins the UWHC complex. Educational Materials Handouts, binders, folders, books and other supplies are covered by the registration fee. Participant Comfort Maintaining a temperature that is ideal for all participants can be difficult; we recommend you bring a sweater or jacket to wear during the program. It was designed to help nurses: • Prepare to successfully pass the ONCC certification exam (OCN) • Review oncology theory and practice issues • Remain current and learn the latest information in the field of oncology nursing Audience Registered nurses who intend to take the certification exam to become an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) through Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. The course identifies the unique role of collaborating with the palliative care team while partnering with the patient and family throughout the dying process. Course content focuses on the principles of HSCT therapies and supportive therapy for both adult and pediatric patients. Topics Include • Treatment of diseases using HSCT • Cell cryopreservation • Conditioning phase • Factors that influence engraftment • Nursing management of acute and chronic complications Audience Registered nurses who practice in a stem cell transplant (HSCT or BMT) setting and/ or care for HSCT patients. Topics The 2010 conference will focus on cancer communications. Audience The conference is designed for oncology nurses, nurse practitioners, oncology physicians, primary care physicians, clinical research associates, health educators, social workers, psychologists and other interested health care professionals involved in cancer care. Fee Fees will be announced in August 2010. Breakfast, lunch and refreshment breaks are included in registration fee.
