  • Slide #2Pragmatic Works is a Microsoft Gold Partner specializing in the Microsoft BI technologies – SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, and SharePoint BI. The company was founded in 2007 by Brian Knight, of whom is a Microsoft MVP, author of 12 SQL Server books, and founder of SQLServerCentral.com and BIDN. Today, Pragmatic Works specializes in three specific areas directly related to Microsoft BI. These are Software Solutions – Training Workshops – and Professional Consulting Services
  • Slide#3In 2007 Pragmatic Works was founded on a software solution called DTS xChange. Brian Knight identified a common challenge from companies looking to quickly and easily move off of Microsoft’s first ETL iteration, DTS, and over to SQL Server Integration Services. Today, many companies have put off this migration and still use DTS in their environment. Do you have any DTS remaining? DTS xChange has a 3-phased approach: The DTS Profiler will create a project plan of your existing DTS environment, and will give you a complete time/cost analysis for the entire migration effortDTS xChange will then convert your DTS packages to SSIS instantly, applying a series of best practices to these newly created SSIS packages. This process always uses native SSIS code. Finally, you have the ability to add an auditing/monitoring framework to these migrated packages and will then be able to monitor the status of these packages from a central SSIS Monitoring Console
  • Slide #4BI xPress allows you to dramatically speed up the development and administration of your SSIS packages. BI xPress integrates directly into Visual Studio for developers or has a launcher application for DBAs who prefer to not work in BIDS. The tool allows you to quickly build SSIS packages, install robust auditing frameworks and helps DBAs deploy multiple packages simultaneously to name just a few features. In October 2012 we’ve also released a Professional Edition of BI xPress, with some exciting new DBA features. Some of these include Data Inspector, Schema Inspector, Data Surf, and Schema Surf.  In 2011, BI xPress received SQL Server Magazine’s Editors’ Best Gold award for “Best BI Software Solution”
  • Slide #6Task Factory is a collection of over 30 essential, high-performance components and tasks for SSIS that eliminate the need for programming. Using Task Factory can increase productivity and can give you a much higher level of performance. Most of our customers find that Task Factory’s SSIS components drastically reduce SSIS development time, and add functionality that would otherwise be very difficult to program manually. Some of these SSIS components include (see above).
  • Slide #5Doc xPress is Pragmatic Work’s next-generation documentation solution! Doc xPress produces complete documentation for the SQL Server instances, SSIS packages, and SSAS cubes. Snapshots of the environment can be captured with a few clicks, making it easy to capture what an environment looks like before making changes.Object Lineage enables users to explore the dependencies in their environment, right down to the column level. Impact Analysis allows SQL Server developers to save countless hours trying to assess how a change to one part of their environment will impact others by enabling them to explore the dependencies in their environments.
  • Slide #7Above and beyond software solutions, Pragmatic Works also provides training workshops, both virtual options and classroom options. We have both introductory and advanced classes for each piece of the Microsoft BI stack. The content for these classes were specifically designed by Brian Knight and Adam Jorgensen, two of our staff Microsoft MVPs. These virtual classes are capped at 23 attendees, and are designed to maximized attendee interaction with the class instructor. Pragmatic Works can help you develop your skills around a single aspect of Microsoft BI, or give you the knowledge you need to attack the entire Microsoft BI stack!
  • Slide #8 Finally, Pragmatic Works employs a team of Professional Microsoft Consultants, including Sr. BI Architects and Sr. DBAs. Our team consists of Microsoft MVPs, authors, and presenters to assist your team in any and all of their SQL Server and Microsoft BI challenges.  Two of our more popular service engagements are the “BI Quick Start” and “BI Blitz” The BI Quick Start is a 5-day engagement designed to build a prototype data warehouse leveraging each of the Microsoft BI tools – SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.  Going a step further, the BI Blitz is a 4-week engagement that will result in a production-ready BI solution. We work with your team to create a BI prototype during the first week, and spend the remaining 3 weeks enhancing the SSIS ETL, SSAS cubes, and presentation layer. At the conclusion of the BI Blitz, you will have a complete, production-ready BI solution to be used by your business end users.  Our “Virtual Mentor” service is one-on-one remote SQL server and Microsoft BI mentoring when you need it!
