Three Simple Options for keeping Track of Employee Hours
Tracking employees' hours helps to track employee’s activities and time spent on each activity during a
work day, this way we can get an overview efficiency and productivity of an employee. For track of
employee hours we need to set up different systems for different employees according to business
needs, the system should be in such a way that it provides correct and complete information. Employers
can use these methods because it allows them to figure out their employees’ salary quantities and
whether the workers are coming and doing the work as expected or not.
Three simple options which can be used to keep a track of employee hours can be as follows:-
1. Time Cards and Sheets: The biggest advantage of using timecards and sheets is its cost
effectiveness; an employer can simply make a small sheet which will include Name, date, hours
worked and salary. This can be done very easily in minimum time and effort. It is best for small
business which does not want to invest much money in this activity. The disadvantage of this
method is that the employees can be that employees are not filling the right details. Having said
this is a great tool for small businesses, but if your company is growing, one should move to a
labor time tracking software.
2. Time Clock Software: This is one of the best ways of tracking time of employees if they work
from a computer. If the number of employees is not very small and adding timesheets is
becoming a trouble and wasting your time, buying software is the best option. Most time clock
soft wares have a module which transfers employees’ hours and activity summary to employer’s
computer within few seconds. This also allows to employers to track their activities such as in or
out time, work, time, break time and lunch time etc.
3. Punch Clock: Using punch clocks-is an old method for tracking time of employees butis a simple
way for you to track your employees’ time. It is low cost and semi-automated way to track your
employee’s hours.The downside of this is that employers have to add the hours manually but
the upside is that the time logged is accurate.
