  • Simple Ways to Save the Environment
  • Simple Things You Can Do
    • Change Your Light Bulbs –
    • CFL - Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
    • LED - Light-Emitting Diode Bulbs
    • CFL Save about $30 over their life
    • Pay back in about 6 months
    • Uses 75 % less energy
    • Can last up to 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb
    • Must recycle CFL bulbs (small amount of mercury)
    • LED nightlights and holiday lights available & reasonable
    • LED - More expensive but even longer lasting than CFL bulbs
  • Simple Things You Can Do
    • Recycle – Why?
    • Some communities have single stream container for all recyclables – Easier than ever
    • Recycling reduces greenhouse gas emission which helps prevent global climate change
    • Energy used in industrial processes and for transportation of “trash” burns fossil fuels
    • There is no away in throwaway. Landfills and their leachate (water) and air emissions are hazardous
    • Old and new landfills are typically located near large bodies of water, making leakage detection and (clean-up) extremely difficult
    • Disposal facilities face public scrutiny and are costly to site, build and operate
    • Some landfills will reach maximum capacity in a few years
  • Simple Things You Can Do
    • Precycle
    • Consider packaging and ability to recycle before buying
    • Does the packaging use recycled materials?
