    • PRFI thought to provide shelter for the homeless through gk and for some reasons did not materialize. to be able to accomplish and continue the support initiated of willing sponsors, partners of prfi and NAR Liason to the Philippines, ms shonee henry, the chairman for housing, ms tere canlas proposed to create a distinct house that signify a mark of filipino identity. as a planner she taught to adopt a design, which considers the sustainability and adaptation to philippine climate. the true filipino house design was long developed, which we popularly called bahay kubo. through the evolution of time and population growth a little modification in the original bahay kubo was considered. it is not fully made of wood unlike before that house post were made out of a strong piece of wood log. over the years the reproduction of cut trees to sustain the future needs of the population does not meet its rapid growth. therefore, the materials used were a bit modified and to be able to cope with the transformation of land figure that affected soil quality for holding of embedded materials, a man’s mixture of stone and steel composition made concrete more reliable for foundation base. our “bahay pinoy” that we called today will be built out of combination of wood and concrete. from the mid portion of the house, wood out from bamboo shall make its remaining upper part including the trusses and the roofing portion be made out of galvanized iron materials covered with anahaw leaves to eliminate the heat absorption of iron roofing. aside from sustainability consideration and climate adaptation, the cost also plays a pivotal consideration in our house design. to provide each family a house with more space that will occupy same size of land, it is stilted at a height where a standard height filipino could stand. the space underneath the house may even be a buffer space for flooding and additional working area. a small portion may also be utilized for green space, underneath the bathroom. then this house concept were given a name of “BAHAY PINOY” through unanimous choice of PRFI 2010 officers and trustees. it was given a name that rhyme in perfect timing to our newly elected president noynoy. coupled with idealism and dreams for filifinos to be out in poverty, the community where these houses shall be built will also be assisted of realtor leaders to create a livelihood inside the community. a tie up with religious group like kerygma shall also be considered for family values formation.
