  2. 2. Cognitive Content Dictionary <ul><li>Choose vocabulary word </li></ul><ul><li>Predict meaning in groups </li></ul><ul><li>Learn and write correct meaning </li></ul><ul><li>Sketch word and use in a sentence </li></ul>
  3. 3. Inquiry Chart <ul><li>Discuss and list what you KNOW about a topic </li></ul><ul><li>List what you WANT to know </li></ul><ul><li>The chart will be processed as the unit progresses </li></ul>
  4. 4. Narrative Input Chart <ul><li>Story mural created by teacher </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher tells a story and adds pictures in appropriate spots of the story </li></ul><ul><li>Next day students put word cards or speech bubbles on mural as story is retold </li></ul>
  5. 5. Sentence Construction/Patterning Chart <ul><li>Work with parts of speech </li></ul><ul><li>Key noun is identified </li></ul><ul><li>Sentences are built by adding adjectives before, a verb after, and prepositional phrases </li></ul><ul><li>Sentences are sung to the tune of “Farmer in the Dell” </li></ul>
  6. 6. Choral Reading/Response/Echo <ul><li>Teacher asks questions and students give answer as group </li></ul><ul><li>Echo is having students repeat what teacher says </li></ul>
  7. 7. Pictorial Input Chart <ul><li>Teacher talks and sketches (over light outline) with marker to illustrate a new concept </li></ul><ul><li>Key vocabulary words are added </li></ul><ul><li>Questions are asked to engage students </li></ul>
  8. 8. Observation Chart <ul><li>Students observe pictures and write observations, comments or questions </li></ul>
  9. 9. Process Grids <ul><li>Use information learned in unit </li></ul><ul><li>Categorize it on a chart </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher provides headings </li></ul>
  10. 10. Cooperative Strip Paragraph <ul><li>Teacher writes topic sentence in black from a process grid </li></ul><ul><li>Table groups come up with sentences that support it from the unit (wall charts) </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher monitors to make sure ideas are different </li></ul><ul><li>All contribute to the paragraph editing and revising as needed as a group </li></ul>
