Femtocells are low-power low-cost small cellular base stations that increase indoor coverage for current voice and high-speed data services as well as provide a basis for next-generation convergent services. Beside that, femtocells offer a seamless transition to the fixed environment. They are an alternative way to take advantage of the benefits of Fixed Mobile Convergence, offering an ubiquitous user experience across all environments, and making use of existing personalized wireless devices, without requiring new dual-mode handsets which work with 3G base stations and Wi-Fi access points. In this paper 3G-femtocell auto-deployments performance in residential scenarios have been studied in terms of capacity and grade of service, analyzing the requirements for a successful deployment of femtocells as a fixed mobile convergent solution.
