      • Creating Video Podcasts
      • Choose your editing software
        • iMovie (for the Mac - requires Firewire Connection)
        • Windows Movie Maker (for PCs - will accept USB connection)
        • Flip Video Proprietary Video (Require Flip Video camera)
      • Choose your camera - look for external microphone jack for best quality sound
        • Mini DV Camcorder
        • Mini DVD Camcorder
        • Hard Drive Camcorder
        • Flip Video

      • Mini DV Camcorder
      • Mini DV tapes can be reused
      • Easy editing - video is saved in DV AVI format
      • Mini DVD Camcorder
      • Convenient - DVDs when finalized can be played in commercial DVD player .
      • Difficult to extract video footage for editing
        • External software program such as Handbrake or Cinematize
        • Extraction very time consuming
      • Difficult editing - video is saved in MPEG2 format

      • Hard Drive Camcorder
      • No need for external media
      • Difficult editing - video is saved in MPEG2 format
      • Flip Video
      • Simple to use . Video is saved in MPEG-4/AVI format
      • Proprietary software, which comes with the camera, is used for rudimentary editing.
      • Video can be exported in .wmv (Windows) or .mov (Mac) format for further editing.
      • Very good sound from internal microphone
      • Camera only holds 1-2 hours of video
      • Little zoom capability

    2. Controlling video file size is the biggest challenge in creating video podcasts. Longer movies may have to be split into segments. Experiment with different settings for export to find a good compromise between file size and video quality. THE UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND
