Conversion of the lower metals to higher is
the job of “Chemistry”.
What is expected from “Rasashastra” is to
make is the “Dehavedha” for the body to
attain the “Mukti” from “Disease”

Introduction
• Rasashastra a Scientific Chemotherapy
of Ayurveda is at Cross-Roads
• The influences and advancements of -
– “Pharmacy standards”
– “Evidence Based Medicine protocols”
– A major Global “Toxic concept campaign” and
– “Ayurveda Fraternity Deception”
• - are making panic to the Ayurveda
community in general and Rasashastra
(Pharmacy) division in specific.

Ayurveda in Research
• The Excellency to bring back – Research in
the any branch especially in Rasashastra is
essential.
• Ayurveda has many units of Research like –
CCRAS, ICMR and many NGOs for making
Research and informing the Research fruits
to the user.
– Whether the Researches in Ayurveda are
User demand fulfillments?
– Are the Researches followed are up to
the International standard to accept
Globally our Medicine?
– Are we make user to satisfy by the –
• “Standard”
• “Effect” or
• “Free of Toxicity”
• By any other way . . . At least . . .

Need of the Hour
• To be frank the researches in Ayurveda
are not user friendly and could not reach
the ultimate user – General Ayurveda
Practitioner
• As we are at the Rasashastra researches
in concern at present – it is necessary to
know how the researches are made in this
branch.

Research in General
• Researches are of many folds to obtain
the “True Knowledge” – A search again
and again to get the perfect knowledge.
• Commonly followed are –
– 1. Explorative Research
• Literary
• Experience survey
– 2. Conclusive
• Descriptive
• Experimental

Research Process
• Problem definition
• Objectives set: purpose – place – status - means
– Research questions
– Hypothesis
– Boundary of the study
• Research design
– Sampling – experiment – questioners
• Data collection
• Data analysis
• Interpretation of results – should be with real world
problem and conclusion
• Validation of results

Is Rasa-Medicine is Target oriented?
A cutting edge technology is the need of hour in Ayurveda.
The road beyond Production & Practice should be visualized.
Dravya Shodhana Probable?
Parada Hingulotha (Alimentary) Pittahara?
Lime powder (Ca+)(neural) Vatahara?
Lasuna + (Tissue invader)
Saindhava Kaphahara?
Gandhaka Godugdha Agni?
Bhringaraj Panchabhutagni?
Whether the “Shodhana” makes the Dravya to reorganize the Chemical bonding?

Another Example of Kupipakwa Rasayana
• In Kupi pakwa Rasayana procedures – the medicine
collection is from the “Talastha” or “Kantastha” and
“Ubhayastha”.
• Taking the example of “Somanatha tamra Bhasma and
Malla Sindhura (Tamra sindhura) are from one preparation.
– The “Kantastha” – called as Tamra Sidhura acts on STI, Tamaka
Swasa
– Where as – the “Talastha” collection called as Tamra Bhasma
acts on – many diseases, especially on Annvaha, Pranavaha,
Twak vikara, etc.
• What makes the difference of collection in a process?
• Whether the target is to prepare one medicine in a
pharmaceutical procedure or two Birds in one shot?
• Does such short cut methods are encouraged by the Learned
community?

What Literary Research?
• Literary research in Rasashastra has a
wide scope and is the need of the hour.
• The print available Rasashastra books are
few and the abundance of Manuscripts
makes – a chance to explore Rasashastra.
• For Eg. – a preparation have many
dialects of preparation methods –
scrutinizing them makes us to have a
target oriented potent Medicine to reach.

How to survey in RT
• Survey and education of Rasa medicine
usage in the practice is recorded –
– What is the need for Practitioner?
• Symptom target
• Disease target
• Organ target
• System target
• Health target
– What medicines are causing the adverse
effects? – Classified Recordings of -
• Hypersensitivity
• Hepato toxicity
• Nephro toxicity
• Neuro toxicity 15
Dr. K. Shiva Rama Prasad, at http://technoayurveda.wordpress.com/
16. Excellence of Rasaaushadhi In Ayurveda Practice
mmon Diseases in GAP Research in RT Activity in Research Research Methods to Adopt
Do we do Descriptive Research in RT
• Much of the present day Researches are
following the Descriptive Method researches
– which are with limited scope - as –
• Prospective study – common
– Physico / Pharmaco -chemical studies
– Drug effect in clinical study
• Retrospective study – Reverse
pharmacology study - uncommon in
Ayurveda
16
Dr. K. Shiva Rama Prasad, at http://technoayurveda.wordpress.com/
17. Excellence of Rasaaushadhi In Ayurveda Practice
Research in RT Activity in Research Research Methods to Adopt Research Models
Experimental Research in RT
Experimental studies have no pickup in
Ayurveda because of non-efficiencies
/exposure in maintenance of –
Animal Houses and
Analytical lab.
The limping or dependent studies are
successful some times but not yielding
the full-fledged fruits and results to the
Ayurveda community.
More systematic animal experiments
and lab studies are required as the
AYUSH is funding and encouraging for
the “Expressive Projects”

18. Excellence of Rasaaushadhi In Ayurveda Practice
Activity in Research Research Methods to Adopt Research Models
Research Models in RT
• Best Research model for successful
Penetration Rating in to market is through
fulfilling the peoples needs –
• Mathematical –
– Inventory
– Parametric
– Replacement
• Algorithmic – is a well-defined sequence steps
to solve a problem
– Combinational
– Polynomial
18
Dr. K. Shiva Rama Prasad, at http://technoayurveda.wordpress.com/
19. Excellence of Rasaaushadhi In Ayurveda Practice
Activity in Research Research Methods to Adopt Research Models
Inventory Research
• Present day researches seems to validate ancient
formulations rather than productivity
• No contribution of the “Neo-Rasashastra” is
brought forward
• An inventory model is –
– Classify and visualize the old formula as TLC, HPTC,
Finger print technology, etc
– Chemical structure is identified
– Reconstruct the chains for validation and comparison
– Restructure the combination to the needs of user
– Rejuvenation of Vedic Chemistry
– There by combating the present day dreadful diseases
19
Dr. K. Shiva Rama Prasad, at http://technoayurveda.wordpress.com/
20. Excellence of Rasaaushadhi In Ayurveda Practice
Activity in Research Research Methods to Adopt Research Models
Parametric Research
• A classical design of Research (validation)–
mere Chemical constituents – studied with -
– Pre-fixed Parameters
– Chemical structure evaluated
– Limited framework to study
• A locality
• One medicine
• Small duration
– Mono-directional
– Target based
– Result oriented

Dr. K. Shiva Rama Prasad, at http://technoayurveda.wordpress.com/
21. Excellence of Rasaaushadhi In Ayurveda Practice
Activity in Research Research Methods to Adopt Research Models
Replacement Research
• In Ayurveda – we are commonly using the
substitutes –
– Whether the replacements are equivalent?
– Does they give exactly results as their substitutes?
– we don’t know!
• Instead – using Replacement Research is
better – here we replace with –
– Standard replacement
– Equivalent replacement (based on Rasa, Guna, etc)
– Omitting replacement
– Complete replacement
21
Dr. K. Shiva Rama Prasad, at http://technoayurveda.wordpress.com/
22. Excellence of Rasaaushadhi In Ayurveda Practice
Research Methods to Adopt Research Models GAP in Research Conclusion
Combinational Research
• The medicines commonly used are of Herbo-
mineral combinations
• The combinational research in Rasashastra is
defined as –
– A team of Rasashastra - Chemistry –
Botany – Pharmacy – Ayurveda Specialized
Branch - are together to work on a
compound – unbiased
– Various methods of said preparations are
compared for the – structure – safety
(Toxicity) – economy - efficacy –
22
Dr. K. Shiva Rama Prasad, at http://technoayurveda.wordpress.com/
23. Excellence of Rasaaushadhi In Ayurveda Practice
Research Methods to Adopt Research Models GAP in Research Conclusion
Polynomial Research
• It is defined as - A mathematical function that is
the sum of a number of terms –
– As the standards of the Ayurveda are unique and not
fit to the “Rest of the World” –
• A multi center – large sample – uni-directional studies are
invited
– This is possible by the universities or CCRAS or ICMR –
creating a Nodal officer to control the studies all over – even the
PG Centers
• A common minimum policy is created to ensure
the
– Drug Safety
– Half life
– Target area and
– Excretion

Reverse Pathology – Reverse Pharmacology
• Reverse pathology in Ayurveda is said as – Samprapti
Vighatana
• Planning of the Vighatana with the combination is the
most important task in Ayurveda Practice. It is possible
with the understanding of Ayurveda principles and
application of –
– Rasa
– Guna
– Veerya
– Vipaka
– Prabhava
• Reverse Pharmacology is understood under the present
day technology about –
– Drug Excretion
– Drug target
– Half life, etc

Repatriation Hypothesis i.e. Reverse Pathology Fluid Regulation
Ahiphena paralyzes Same time the Urine re-
sigmoid smooth absorption from Henley's loop
mussels & Dadima is retarded by Vanga, and
prevents the fluid Kadali 2
re absorption from - Udumbara makes the
colon by reverse integumentary system
peristalsis, Loha (Lasika) to constrain and fluid
require maximum retained is drained back to
fluid for synthesis system
and absorbs the
water once again –
so, the fluid re-
entry in to system
is regulated at the 1
same time Shalmali
absorbs the fluid in
the colon

Research Methods to Adopt Research Models GAP in Research Conclusion
Repatriation Hypothesis i.e. Reverse Pathology CHO Regulation
Formation of shareera CHO combustion is done
kleda – CHO is through rapid muscle
through Liver (Mamsa movements by initiating
Khanda) and Acetylcholine at motor
Pancreas – there by endplates in muscle fiber
the Parada acts as 3 through - Mouktika –
agent to and prevents Pravala
the neo-glycolysis Heat generated with
muscle movement makes
the bahudrava shleshma
to evaporate

Shalmali, Parada
initiates the
pancreas to regulate
the CHO
