Router Configuration Note Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 Version 1.0 Scope This document describes how to configure the Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 access point to work with LucidLink Wireless Security Software, version 2.3. The document: • Focuses on the manual configuration of the access point. • Does not address LucidLink software installation or configuration. • Assumes the LucidLink server is installed and configured with an IP address and shared secret. Test Profile This is a preliminary document to help you get started with the Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6. The procedures in this document were tested and are known to work with the following hardware and software. Not all compatible hardware in all modes has been tested with this product.   2. 2. Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 Connecting to the Device 1 Connect the access point to the same network hub as the workstation you will use to configure it. This workstation does not necessarily have to be the LucidLink server host computer. o Connect the Ethernet Cable to the Ethernet connector to the left of the power port. o Connect the power pack output to the power port. 2 Reset the access point to its factory default settings: o With the power on, insert an unfolded paperclip or similar object into the Reset groove on the back of the access point. o Hold down the Reset button for at least 20 seconds. Be sure you are connecting with the button and that it is actually pressed down. 3 Use the default IP address 192.168.1.1 as listed in the Linksys Quick Installation Guide for the Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 access point. 4 Open an Internet browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in the address field. 5 At the login box, enter User Name and Password.   4. 4. Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 Configuring Wireless Security Once you've connected to the Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6, follow these steps to configure it. Do not activate the Linksys SES security feature. This router will not work with LucidLink Wireless Security if this feature is activated. You must reset this device to factory defaults to de-activate the SES security feature. IP Addresses and SSID 1 Click Basic Setup from the top navigation link. The Basic Setup screen is displayed. Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 2 In Router Name, enter a unique name for the access point. 3 Enter the following for Network Setup section: o IP Address  IP Address for the access point. o Subnet Mask  IP Address for the portion of your internal wired LAN shared by the access point and the LucidLink server computer.   6. 6. Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 4 Configure the Network Address Server Settings (DHCP) section as it pertains to your network. Please check with your ISP to complete the DNS and WINS IP address fields. 5 Select the correct Time Zone from the dropdown list. 6 Click Save Settings and Continue Wireless The SSID (Network Name) is used by the wireless clients to identify your network. The SSID appears to users when they connect to the network. You can use the same or a different SSID for each access point. The default SSID linksys should be changed, as this is an un-secure SSID and can be a potential security threat to your network. 1. Click Wireless tab on the top navigation bar. The Wireless Basic Wireless dialog screen is displayed: 2. Enter the following: o Mode  Select Mixed from drop down list. o SSID  SSID for this access point. o Channel  Use default.   7. 7. Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 o SSID Broadcast Choose Enable. 3. Click Save Settings. 4. Click Continue. Security Access points can be configured for Maximum Security (WPA-RADIUS with TKIP encryption), or Maximum Compatibility (68/128-bit dynamic WEP key encryption), depending on the capabilities of the client wireless adapter cards. To learn your hardware capabilities, see the Compatibility Chart at. www.lucidlink.com/Tech_Support/Compatibility.asp 1 Click Wireless Security Settings tab. The Wireless Security screen is displayed. For Maximum Security (WPA-RADIUS with TKIP): 1 Enter: o Security Mode  Select WPA Enterprise from drop down list. Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 o WPA Algorithm  Select TKIP from drop down list. o Radius Server Address  Enter the IP Address of the LucidLink Server. o Radius Port  Enter 1812. o Shared Key  Shared Secret configured on the LucidLink server Settings dialog. The LucidLink Shared Secret is auto-generated when you install the server. Copy this value from the Management Console Settings dialog to the access point's interface. o Key Renewal Timeout  Leave default. 2 Click Save Settings. 3 Click Continue. Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 1 Enter: o Security Mode  Select RADIUS from drop down list. o Radius Server Address  Enter the IP Address of the LucidLink Server. o Radius Port  Enter 1812. o Shared Key  Shared Secret configured on the LucidLink server Settings dialog. The LucidLink Shared Secret is auto-generated when you install the server. Copy this value from the Management Console Settings dialog to the access point's interface. o Default Transmit Key  Leave default o WEP Encryption  Select 64 bit 10 hex digits or 128 bit 26 hex digits depending on the capabilities of the Wireless NIC. o Key 1  Enter the 64 bit or 128 bit key 2 Click Save Settings. 3 Click Continue. Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 Change Administrator Password To secure your access point, we recommend that you change the default administrator password. 1 Click Administration from top navigation link. The Router Password screen is displayed. 2 Enter New Password. 3 Re-enter to confirm New Password. 4 Click Save Settings. 5 Click Continue. 6 Close your browser window. Interlink Networks, Inc. Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 Rechecking Access Point Connection 1 Reopen your browser and enter the access point's new permanent IP address in the Address field. 2 At the Login, enter the new access point User Name and Password. You should once again see the Setup screen. 3 You may optionally bookmark this URL or create a shortcut to it from your desktop for future access to the Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 configuration screens. Installing the Router 1 Connect the Linksys WRT54G v. 4.20.6 to your broadband modem or whatever gateway provides your Internet service. 2 Connect the server to one of the LAN ports on the router, or else to a hub or switch connected to the router. 3 Repeat the procedure to check the connection from the server computer. If you cannot see the administration page, check that the server’s IP address is on the same network as the IP address you assigned to the router. Interlink Networks, Inc.
