Architecture for Humanity (AFH) is an online community that actively embraces the tenets of open source to generate innovative and sustainable designs that improve living standards. Sun built a solution based on Solaris 10, Apache Web server, MySQL database, and PHP (SAMP), that allows architects and community leaders to download and upload copyright-free designs, building plans and blueprints, and case studies of successful projects. This open, collaborative forum is helping AFH reach out to its community—comprised mainly of designers, builders, architects, donors, and volunteers—to improve living conditions for those in need across the world, and the rebuilding of communities affected by disasters like the South Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. less
