When you work in an office, you get to know the people you work with
well. This can be a good or bad thing depending on how you react to
people and get along with others. If your office staff has a hard time
dealing with others, or if team work is a pitfall, perhaps your office
could use some team building. Team building is a relatively new
concept, bringing people together in a positive way, in order to boost
office moral.
Team building is not only a great way to cut out a large amount of strife
in your office work place, but it is also a good way to help your
employees grow as people. Some of the following ideas are used to
bring office co workers closer together and create tighter bonds.
Office team building ideas:
Build a mock house. Set up two or more teams. Provide all the
necessary materials; use your vision; be creative, e.g., popsicle sticks or
pencils, paper clips, gum, glue, tape, paper, plastic, carpet, etc. Place all
the materials on a table and have each team select the items they need
to build the house. Allow 20 minutes to complete the house. Determine
which completed house can withstand water damage by using a
contained “water bucket dump” environment. You could also apply
wind resistance utilizing an item designed like “the big bad wolf”;
create your own disaster. When completed discuss how each member
worked and participated in the team.
Celebrate: Provide the winners with a “huge” gold Star. Hang it from
the ceiling for all to see. Ask the members of the winning team to pass
it to each team member until all team members have had the Star.

Trivia Pursuit Put two teams together. Utilize words and programs
from your daily staff and office work. Pursue the words for at least 20
minutes. At the completion, have a discussion with the group on how
the support of other team members allowed them to win or not win
and how that same type of interaction applies to their work life.
Celebrate: Never forget a staff birthday. The company can put forth an
effort to celebrate every person’s birthday. This can mean a cake, an
office gift or a simple card. All of these ideas will help the staff feel as if
they are part of a team. Handing out chocolate bars or teats for a job
well done also makes for a happy staff.
Although it is not hard to create and come up with team building
activities, it can be hard to find the right ones for your staff. If you find
it is hard to create the right activities for your group, you can hire a
“team building” company. These are fully staffed companies who can
help your office function as a group, rather than separate entities.
These teams are also able to help your office solve conflict in a positive
way. Team building has been used in governments and universities for
years, and the results have been quite astounding.
