  3. 3. What is a mummy? <ul><li>A mummy is a corpse whose skin and organs have been preserved by either intentional or incidental exposure to chemicals , extreme coldness, very high humidity , or lack of air when bodies are submerged in bogs . </li></ul>

  11. 12. Egyptian mummies <ul><li>Second step: remove all moisture from the body. This they did by covering the body with natron , a type of salt which has great drying properties. To make the mummy seem even more life-like, false eyes were added. </li></ul>
  12. 13. Egyptian mummies <ul><li>Third step: the wrapping began. Each mummy needed hundreds of metres of linen. In order to protect the dead, amulets were placed among the wrappings and prayers and magical words written on some of the linen strips. Often they placed a mask of the person's face between the layers of head bandages. The mummy was completed. </li></ul>
