  2. 2.  Koch was the first to demonstrate that bacteria can cause disease in living creatures.  For his discoveries and studies he is considered the “Father of Bacteriology”.  His major discovery was in 1882 when he discovered the bacillus that causes tuberculosis (bacillus-of-Koch). Thanks to this, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1905.
