PAGE 2 Accountable Care Organizations (ACO’s) We all hear a lot of talk about ACO’s, but it seems like most of us are unsure what exactly ACO’s are or what they mean for us personally. At a glance, an ACO is a group of physicians or a group of physicians and hospitals who work closely together under a contract with Medicare. This group would be responsible for caring for a minimum of 5,000 Medicare patients assigned to them. The goal of these ANSI 5010 provider groups would be to achieve certain health standards TESTING and goals in order to achieve bonus payments for providing good care and providing it efficiently. Professional Many people believe that this type of system is the key to achieving the United States goal of “National Quality Office Solutions Strategy”. This strategy has three core goals. These goals began ANSI 5010 are: testing months Better Care- Improve the healthcare of patients by healthcare ago. This will more patient centered, reliable, and safe. How do you do provide an easy, this? One way is to improve communication between providers. seamless So, if you work with the same physicians all the time, transition for both perhaps the lines of communication would be better. Healthy People and Communities-Improve the nations health byus and our billing delivering higher quality and practicing interventions to clients. You will address behavioral, social, and environmental determinants of not even notice a health. Affordable Care- Lower the cost of healthcare for everyone change! including not only patients, but the government and businesses. There are many speculations about whether this will ever actually take off and the federal regulations ever reach a final decision. Whether or not there is ever federal regulations in regards to ACO’s one thing is clear. Health insurance companies and employers are both pushing for a system where physicians and hospitals are held accountable for the overall cost and quality of care. This type of change will mean a change in fee schedules. Much like we now negotiate fee schedules with insurance companies, we will have to negotiate pay for certain standards of care. Furthermore, the way we bill and provide information will also change because we will have certain measures required to prove quality care. As changes continue to occur with the future of ACO’s Professional Office Solutions will continue to research and maintain the standards necessary to help your business continue to prosper and grow. As we learn and receive information on changes and advances we will be sure to relay the information to you. PROFESSIONAL OFFICE SOLUTIONS, LLC.
