  • 1. Native Americans of the Northwest Coast James Kaliann Kortni Chance
  • 2. The Northwest coast Indians lived in the northwest along the Pacific Ocean where there were a lot of fish.
  • 3. They had long houses made out of planks.
  • 4. They carved totem poles to stand in front of their houses. These totem poles told stories of pride in their people.
  • 5. <ul><li>They built their houses out of cedar wood and built them on the beach. </li></ul>
  • 6. There was plenty of cedar to build their homes and make their canoes .
  • 7. They made clothes out of tree bark .
  • 8. They also made their clothes out of animal skin. One of animals they used was bear.
  • 9. They made their blankets from cedar bark woven with goat hair .
  • 10. They roasted fish that they got from the ocean .
  • 11. They also ate shellfish , seals and salmon .
  • 12. They never ate bread because they never farmed.
  • 13. Some of the Northwest coast Indians even caught whales for food.
