  3. 3. Visuals and the lyrics <br />In the lesson today we will be focusing on the connection drawn by Goodwin, between the lyrics of the song and what we see on screen. <br />By the end of the lesson you will understand the links he suggests between lyrics and visuals<br />
  4. 4. What do you mean? <br />Visuals <br />= what we see on screen <br />Lyrics <br />= the words of the song <br />
  5. 5. Task- the lyrics <br />Listen to the following song without seeing the video<br />Using the lyrics complete the following task: <br />Task <br />Draw a brief storyboard or write a brief description about what you think you would be seeing on screen.<br />
  6. 6. The visuals <br />Watch the video <br /><br />Were you right? <br />There may be three types of links between lyrics and visuals. <br />

Lyrics and visuals <br />Goodwin suggests that there is a relationship between visuals and the lyrics <br />The relationships may be: <br />Illustrative Images are used to represent the lyrics and genre, perhaps like a metaphor<br />For example the film we saw before would be an example of illustrative.<br /><br />
  8. 8. 2. Amplifying (literally interpreting the words and exaggerating them. Often images are repeated and drummed into the audiences heads ) <br />New layers of meaning<br /> may be added to the <br /> song<br /><br /><br />If you like it then you should have put a ring on it <br />
  9. 9. 3 .Contradicting (opposing the lyrics. The video will have nothing to do with the song) This may also be called disjuncture <br />The video will have nothing to do with the actual song lyrics and they are not trying to create meaning. <br /><br />
