  • First Professional Degree Recognized by the US Dept of Education Require completion of academic requirements to become licensed in a recognized profession Chiropractic, Dentistry, Podiatry, Pharmacy, Divinity, Law Teacher Certification Institutions accredited by the state
  • When thinking about transition, the O-net online can help you to begin thinking about your next career. This site enables you to put in your MOS and then see what civilian positions with the same skill sets as those of your MOS. The Career-one-stop or in PA it is called Career Link have counselors specially trained to help veterans seek and obtasin employement.
  • Databases and companies need to see ONLY those skills that relate to the position. Oftentimes, those who see your resume first have little experience in the position for which you are applying. Consequently, list your skills and experience in the same order – leave much white space – keep the resume as free of tabs and fancy fonts as possible.
  • Corporate recruiters that work specifically with veterans are experienced in reviewing your military resume and converting that resume to a civilian resume that addresses the skills for a particular position. These companies have coaches that can help you as well. For example, how to eliminate military acronyms from your language.
  • Certified professional resume writer, Resume Writers and Career Coaches, They will ask the questions necessary and prepare the resume based upon the skills obtained during militiary service and demonstrate in the civilian resume how you are well prepared to step into a civlian position.
  • Just as there are sites specifically designed to help service members and veterans transition into the civilian world, there are agencies that assist in helping to identify available positions more easily. Indeed.com pulls positions throughout the web and lists current positions according to the time that they appear. Networking is your best resource. Think about which agencies, organizations and groups can help you to meet those who can let you know as soon as a job is listed. (i.e. rotary, chamber of commerce, Leadership Pittsburgh, Young Professionals in our area.) In addition, those who are attending school and esp. those who graduate, have access to the school’s career services. Those students who graduate from the Art Institute, South University or Argosy have access to the most up to date career services resources. In fact, the Art Institute has an 87% placement rate for its graduates.
