  • 1. BSD Consulting business.sustainability.development Carbon bubble demand tracker A demand side initiative from BSD John Moorhead TBLI, Zurich 14th November, 2013
  • 2. Carbon bubble demand tracker • BSD Consulting has developed a Carbon bubble demand tracker to track how the 565-900 GtCo2 budget for 2010-2050 is being used on the demand side by industries, companies and consumers • For 2010 to 2050 mankind needs to emit 1.7-2.8% less carbon/year to stay within its carbon emission budget and stay within a 2o centigrade increase in temperature (80% probability for higher budget) 2
  • 3. Lower carbon budget (565 GtCO2) requires an annual decrease of 2.8%/year 31 GtCO2 14 GtCO2 -2.78%/year vs 2010 Graph is not to scale Supply Budget 565 GtCO2 0 GtCO2 2010 -3.5 GtCO2 Sources: BSD Consulting, Carbon Tracker, Potsdam Institute 2046 2050 3
  • 4. Higher carbon budget (900 GtCO2) requires an annual decrease of 1.7%/year 32 GtCO2 -1.7 %/year vs 2013 Graph is not to scale Supply Budget 900 GtCO2 22.5 GtCO2 12.6 GtCO2 0 GtCO2 2013 Sources: BSD Consulting, Carbon Tracker, IEA, OECD 2049 4
