Photo Essay

 1. 1. Childhood is about everyday being an adventure. It is about the joy of freedom and never caring about what comes in your path. Being a kid is about being charismatic, troublesome, and cute.
 2. 2. However, people’s outlooks on a ‘good time’ have drastically changed due to the advances in technology. The young adults seen here are in a handheld gaming lounge. Their idea of fun is to sit around inside and play with handhelds by themselves instead of socializing with each other or getting fresh air outside.
 3. 3. Reading began as something fun to do during free time or something needed to do research. Fairy tales and science fiction help us expand our imagination. Any book could make us step out of reality and into a world of fantasy.
 4. 4. The current generation uses the internet for everyday purposes. They surf the web and have online accounts on chat or game websites. Adolescents have lost their passion of reading.
 5. 5. Back in the day, a tire could simply be used as something to swing on. Tires could also be used to push a little sibling around while chasing after them. They were used for innocent and simplistic playtime.
 6. 6. Today, tires are used to move the car that teens are given after receiving their licenses. Over time, the age for being eligible to drive has varied. Tires are used for a totally different purpose by kids in the present.
 7. 7.

During the 20 th century, kids use to blow bubbles as a leisure

activity. The bubbles floating around us symbolized the carefree spirits of youth and childhood.

 8. 8.

These days, kids rely on a bubble machine to blow the bubbles for them. The advancement of technology shows how much we rely on tools to do things that we are totally capable of without using them.

 9. 9.

In the mid 1900’s, children used to listen to music through earmuff headphones connected to a giant radio box. The genre of music also varied in the 1950’s. People listened to classical, jazz, and blues.

 10. 10.

Most adolescents of today

probably own a handheld musical

device called an iPod. However,

iPods are not limited to just the

younger generation, but adults as

well. Rap, hip-hop, and hard rock

are the widely popular music

genres of the present.

 11. 11.

Kids play

outside to get

fresh air and

exercise at the

same time. That’s one way they remain healthy.

Outside activities include

bike riding, climbing trees, or

just playing an entertaining

game of tag.

 12. 12.

In our time, kids are always seen planted in front

of a television. They lack in exercise because

they are too hooked on an episode of Dora or

Gossip Girl. They fail to get the right amount of

exercise everyday, causing our generation to be the

most obese.

 13. 13.

African American kids

would remain distant

from white children

because they were not

allowed to socialize with

them.

During the early until

late 1900’s, playtime for

children used to be

segregated. White

children would play with

each other and

disregard black kids.

 14. 14.

Children of today have fun

together, regardless of what

race. They don’t view skin

color as a social barrier.

That barrier has been

crossed in the late 90’s.

However, in some parts of

America, there is still

segregation among citizens.

 15. 15. Today, youth is not just a matter of age. It depends on how childish you are on the inside. Adolescents of this generation are all friends. Friends who are interracial, co gender, and of any age group.
