  • 1. Concrete paint is easy to apply and looks great, butit has a short lifespan. For interior applications, youcan get 5-10 years out of a good paint, and forexterior applications, 1-2 years. If and when wateror moisture becomes an issue, the paint will start tobubble, flake, and peel. Some paints, like epoxies, will trap the water beneath the surface, causing theconcrete to crack and spall before seeing any signson the surface. If you plan on using a concretepaint, whether an acrylic, latex, or epoxy, it isimportant to first seal your concrete with apenetrating sealer.
  • 2. As mentioned on the previous slide, here are issuesoften masked by concrete paint: Concrete Efflorescence Water and Moisture Mold Cracks and spallsWhen and how do you know you have an issue? Not until the paint (acrylic, latex, epoxy, silane, siloxane) starts to bubble, flake, or peel off.
  • 3. Before painting concrete, you want to first apply apenetrating concrete sealer. Why? Because Foundation Armorsealers: Chemically react with the concrete for form a permanentcrystalline barrier within the pores, guaranteed to prevent theintrusion of water, moisture, and some vapors. Help to increase the adhesion of paints by up to 20%. Help to increase the life of a concrete paint by up to 2 years. Strengthen, seal, and protect your concrete from the inside.Foundation Armor sealers NEVER have to be reapplied.Theyare a permanent solution to sealing and protecting concrete.
  • 4.  Clean the concrete slab. Make sure it is free ofpaints, sealers, stains and other chemicals thatcould prevent proper absorption into theconcrete. Dilute and apply a Foundation Armorpenetrating sealer. Apply the concrete paint or stain of your choice. Let dry.Learn more: concrete sealers.
  • 5. FOUNDATION ARMORTM SEALERS STOP: Water and vapor migration up to 100psi Moisture vapor transmission up to .015 WVT Alkali attack and efflorescence attackFOUNDATION ARMORTM SEALERS REDUCE: Transmission of hazardous gases, includingRadon The absorption of chemicals, chlorides, solvents, fats and oils Internal chlorides by up to 50%-90%FOUNDATION ARMORTM SEALERS PREVENT: The growth of mold, mildew, bacteria, lichen, and moss Flaking, cracking, scaling and spallingcaused during freeze-thaw cycles Surface deterioration and discolorationFOUNDATION ARMORTM SEALERS INCREASE:•Overall strength, hardness, and density by up to 45%•Bond strength of epoxies, paints, and stains by up to20%FOUNDATION ARMORTM SEALERS:NEVER peel, flake, or fadeNEVER stain from exposure to UV raysNEVER leave behind a slippery surface coatingNEVER have to be re-applied or maintained
  • 6. Water plus cement produces Calcium Silicate Hydrate (C-S-H) in aprocess known as Hydration. C-S-H is the binding system for concrete.Combined with the aggregate, C-S-H gives concrete its hardness andstrength.A reactive byproduct of the Hydration process is Calcium Hydroxide. When a Foundation Armor concrete sealer is applied to concrete, itreacts with the existing Calcium Hydroxide to produce additional C-S-H.This additional C-S-H is what provides the increased hardness anddensification by up to 45%, and water resistance up to 100 PSI.FoundationArmor concrete sealers have the highest percentage ofreactive material, and are optimized to make the silicate availablemore quickly for more rapid C-S-H formation.
