Tantaline Corrosion Resistant Surface Alloy Process for Products in Hot Acids - Presentation Transcript

    1. The Tantaline Process “ The surface alloy is the key” Version: 13.11.08
    2. The Process
      • Overall
      • Details
Stainless Substrate Tantalum Core Processes Supporting Operation Quality Testing Inspection Product Sutability Control Alkaline Cleaning + Acidic Pickling Etching for Tolerance Control Mounting of Parts + Reactor Packing Alloy Bonding of Substrate & Tantalum Deposition of Tantalum Excess Layer Post Treatment Polishing & Grinding 100% Quality Testing by Boiling in Hot HCl Exit Control + Certificate
    3. Process Requirements
      • Materials
      • Geometry and Size
      18” (460mm) 28” (710mm) D Length < 10xD
    4. Creating the Tantaline Surface
      • High temperature: 700C – 900C
      • Solid state diffusion (allows surface alloying)
      • Gas phase process / geometry independent
      • The deposited tantalum is 100% dense, ductile and low tension
      Alloy Zone Tantalum Surface Typical : 0.002” / 50um Max: 0.008”/ 200um
    5. Tantaline Utilizing Standard Parts
      • Tolerance Etching
        • 0.002” (50um) material is removed
      • Tantaline Processing
        • 0.002” (50um) tantalum is grown (up to 0.008” or 200um)
      • Dimensions of original part maintained (internal & external)
Original Part Tantalum Metal Surface Alloy SS SS Etched Part SS
    6. Post Treatment Polishing & Grinding
      • Vibration polishing (standard)
        • Visual apperance
      • Fine grit grinding (extra)
        • Polishing by fine #500 to #1000 paper by hand
      • Bright polishing (extra)
        • By machine and paste.
      • Tolerance grinding (extra)
        • In case where very exact tolerances are needed
    7. Quality Control Testing in HCl
      • 100% of parts are tested
      • 95°C (203°F) hot 32% hydrochloric acid
      • Min 2 day – Up to 30 days
      • Less than 1 / 1000 of parts fails during this test
