A, an, এবং the কে article বলে। Article কে দুই ভালে ভাে েরা হয়। যথা-
(i) Definite Article- (The) (ii) Indefinite Article- (A, An)
The কে definite article এবং A এবং An কে Indefinite article বলে।
Definite article বযবহৃত হয় নিনদিষ্ট েলর কোি নেছু বুঝালত আর Indefinite article বযবহৃত হয় অনিনদিষ্ট কোি নেছু
বুঝালত।
(1) নিনদিষ্ট কোি বযনি বা বস্ত্ত বুঝালত definite article বযবহৃত হয়। এই নিনদিষ্ট বযনি বা বস্ত্ত এেজিও হলত পালর
আবার এলের অনিেও হলত পালর। definite article এর কেলে বাংোয় সািারণত ’নি’, ’গুলো’, অথবা ’গুনে’ শলের
উলেখ থালে।
Examples
I saw a boy yesterday and the boy came to me today
Suddenly a ripe apple fell beside him and the apple turn in to gold as soon as he touch it
(2) সমগ্র জানত বা কেণী বুঝালত singular noun এর পূলবি the বলস। কযমি- The cow is a useful animal এখালি
Cow মালি েরু জানত। নেন্তু সমগ্র জানত বুঝালত man এবং woman এর পূলবি কোি Article বলস িা।
Man is mortal (মািুষ মরণশীে)।
(3) িদী, পবিতলেণী (অলিেগুলো পবিত), সমুদ্র, দ্বীপপুঞ্জ (অলিেগুলো দ্বীপ) ইতযানদ িালমর আলে the বলস।
Our village stands on the Megna . Dhaka stands on the Buriganga
The Atlantic ocean is a big ocean. The Andamans is in India (আন্দামাি দ্বীপপুঞ্জ ভারলত অবনিত)
The Himalays is to the north of Bangladesh. The Alps is in Europe

(4) কোি Uncountable noun কে নিনদিষ্ট েলর বুঝালত the বযবহৃত হয়।
Example The gold of this ornament is pure. The rice of Dinajpur is fine.

(9) Road এর িালমর পূলবি the বলস, নেন্তু Street, Avenue এবং Lane- এর িালমর পূলবি the বলস িা

(10) পুস্তলের িালমর আলে কেখলের িাম থােলে তখি ঐ পুস্তলের িালমর আলে the বলস িা। কযমি-
Homer’s Illiad is a famous epic (কহামালরর ইনেয়ড এেনি নবখযাত মহাোবয)
(11) বাদযযলের িালমর পূলবি the বলস িা নেন্তু কেউ যনদ বাদযযে বাজায় তাহলে তার পূলবি the বলস। play মালি বাদযযে
বাজালিা-
Kakon has an Aktara and he plays the aktara (োেি এেতারা বাজায়)
(12) জাহাজ, কেি, নবমাি, মহাোশযাি, নবখযাত অট্টানেো ইতযানদ িালমর আলে the বলস।
জাহাজ বুঝালে MV বলস, কেি বুঝালে Express বলস, নবমাি বুঝালে 0025, 0050 ইতযানদ বলস।
The MV Sunderbans is a big ship. The Mahanagar Express runs fast.
The Tajmahal is in India.
(13) ক্রমবাচে সংখযা (ordinal number) এর পূলবি the বলস।

(14) Adjectives দ্বারা যখি কোি কেণী বুঝায় তখি তার পূলবি the বলস। কযমি- The rich, the poor, the virtuous,
the lazy, the oppressed.
The lazy cannot succeed in life (অেলসরা জীবলি উন্ননত েরলত পালরিা)
The oppressed should be helped (নিযিানততলদরলে সাহাযয েরা উনচত)
The rich are not always happy. The virtuous are helped by Allah (পূিযবািলদরলে আোাহ সাহাযয েলর)
(15) Superlative degree এর পূলবি the বলস। কযমি-
He is the best boy in the class
(16) Comparative degree এর পূলবি Adverb নহলসলব the বলস। কযমি-
The sooner, the better (যতশীঘ্র ততই ভালো)
The more, the merrier (যতলবশী তত আিন্দ)
The more he has, the more he wants (যার যত আলছ কস তত চায়)
(17) সংযুি শে দ্বারা েনেত কোি কদলশর িালমর পূলবি the বলস। কযমি-

(21) এেই গুণসম্পন্ন দুই বযনি বা বস্ত্তর মলিয তুেিা েরা হলে যার সালথ তুেিা েরা হয় তার পূলবি the বলস।

(1) কোি শলের শুরুলত vowel (a,e,i,o,u) থােলে সািারণত ‘an’ বলস। কযমি-

(2) কোি শলের শুরুলত Consonant (a,e,i,o,u ছাড়া অিয সব letter) থােলে ‘A’ বযবহৃত হয়। কযমি-

(3) Consonant এর উচ্চারণ যনদ ‘এ’ অথবা ‘অ’ অথবা ‘আ’ এর মত হয় তাহলে তার পূলবি an বলস। এলেলে a বলস
িা।

(4) Vowel এর উচ্চারণ যনদ ‘এ’, ‘অ’, ‘আ’, এলদর মত িা হলয় ‘ইউ’, ‘ওয়া’ এলদর মত হয় তাহলে কসই vowel যুি
শলের পূলবি a বলস। এলেলে an বলস িা। কযমি-

(5) অপনরনচত বযনির িাম (name) অথবা পদবীর (surname) পূলবি a বযবহৃত হয়। এলেলে Mr. শেনি থালে। কযমি-

(6) Dozen, hundred, thousand, million প্রভৃ নতর পূলবি a বলস।
Here are a dozen of mangoes (এখালি এে ডজি আম আলছ)
There were a thousand people (কসখালি এে হাজার কোে নছে)
(7) Such এর পর a/an বলস।
