  • Introduction to Top 6 Tips For SEO For WordPress
Tampa SEO has a ton of clients who use WordPress. WordPress is a great content management system (CMS) and has some great features for a small business. WordPress is easy to use, pretty powerful, and out of the box it is pretty decent for SEO.
  • WordPress SEO Tip 1: Redirect www to non www using a permanent 301 redirect in .htaccess.
The SEO problem here is that Google sees www.example.com and example.com as two completely separate websites. Wordpress understands this, but by default, WordPress does not change your .htaccess for you. With that said, the very first thing that Tampa SEO will do when optimizing a WordPress website for SEO will be to create a permanent redirect in our client’s .htaccess file.
See SEO change number 2 for specific instructions on how to set up a www redirect for maximum WordPress search engine optimization.
  • WordPress SEO Tip 2: WordPress has silly permalinks by default. Change these permalinks for better SEO visibility.
Search engines look at URL structure, incoming links, and anchor text to gain an better understanding of what your WordPress website is about. The default WordPress permalinks can be a problematic piece of the SEO puzzle if not done correctly. However, changing your WordPress permalinks can be somewhat of a challenging problem for people who are unfamiliar with search engine optimization.
  • WordPress SEO Tip 2: WordPress has silly permalinks by default. Change these permalinks for better SEO visibility.
To fix both SEO problems above, you’ll need to follow the instructions below. Here is how Tampa SEO would fix the above two problems:
    A. Open your .htaccess file
    B. At the bottom of the .htaccess file, copy and paste the following code:
    # BEGIN WordPress RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yourdomain.com [NC]
    RewriteRule (.*) http://www.yourdomain.com/$1 [L,R=301]
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L] # END WordPress
  • WordPress SEO Tip3: Make sure tracking is enabled so you can tell if your WordPress website has improved in SEO.
The beauty of the internet is that tracking your return on investment (ROI) on your marketing activities has never been easier. Setting up visitor tracking with Google Analytics is an absolutely crucial step in getting your WordPress website search engine optimized – because if you don’t understand what SEO activities are working, then why bother spending any time at all?
To be clear, Tampa SEO is not saying that you will gain an organic boost in the search engines by installing Google Analytics. We’re only saying that we need to have tracking installed in order to understand your organic SEO optimization for your WordPress website.
  • WordPress SEO Tip 3: Make sure tracking is enabled so you can tell if your WordPress website has improved in SEO.
