September 2, 2009 – Andrew Dorsey, President of TBYR, delivered the following speech at the TBYR
Dinner Series with Senator Carey Baker.
“I want to say what an exciting time the next year is going to be. As of right now the Republican Party is
facing an identity crisis, but you are a Tampa Bay Young Republican; and what makes you different is
that, on a daily basis, we live our club motto: Republican Leadership Starts Here.
With the new TBYR administration, we can now move ahead with a new goal of rolling up our sleeves
and getting the job done. Instead of complaining about not being at the table, this new administration
has taken a different approach, that of not only sitting at the table, but of building the table.
Only on a strong foundation can we move ahead. We, the members of the Republican Party, are being
called on today; to develop strategies that foster community involvement and define a new era of
Republican thought. We will win elections for ourselves and our area candidates by putting
knowledgeable and educated leaders at our helm, as well as holding events that help draw our friends
and family from private life; letting them know that their voice matters. By reaching our neighbors, we
can keep them informed as to the issues affecting us today, and help stem the weight of a pervasive and
intrusive Federal government. By joining together, we have built networks all across the bay area that are
required to integrate with the greater Republican Party as a whole and be THE driving force that will
reaches our community in the years ahead.
In the next few decades social security will fail, our life expectancies will begin to decline; and if we do
nothing now, our generation will likely not live as prosperous a life as our parents.
This is the new TBYR; out of passion for our country and our community we do the work that needs to
be done. We will find those who are passionate for liberty and hold patriotic values. We will help stack
the chairs that need to be stacked to get voters involved in the political process. We will use the
technology available to keep our supporters and community informed about the legislation affecting their
lives. The Democrats have declared an era of governmental transparency, a transparency of control into
our health, our education, our vehicles, our bank accounts, and our homes. In this time of complete
liberal control, we will be an advocate for liberty, patriotism and personal responsibility.
Unlike ever before, we ARE the political process. TBYR will help our other fellow Republican brothers and
sisters in arms; we will pick up the slack where it needs to be done. So be proud of the tables at which
you sit and together, we have built and now proclaime that in the political landscape of today let it be
known that ‘Republican Leadership Starts Here.’ ”
